By the way i didnt meant your site was ugly but i think the forum is, it's missing something, like you got a brand new vette with no hood or doors or something. Or a hummer with wheelbarrow wheels on it. somethign just looks off to me. Once again jsut the board not the site. Really like the way SMF integrations turn out when they are skinned though. This one for example is really tight and i would assume much more powerful.
I suppose you could tweak the CSS but last time i did that it moved all sorts of stuff and was actually a complete hassle, so i dumped it. I guess it looks to me like it should be better looking a little more inviting.
LOL. No offense at all. At least you are honest. I know it needs some CSS work and I will get it to it very soon. I'll be changing the whole theme very soon so I haven't spent any time looking into the CSS of Joomlaboard yet. The forum does come with a couple of 'themes' and one of them alternates the board background colors. The other organizes the user info across the top of each post instead of down the left side.
I agree that SMF is an awesome forum. I started with SMF before even coming to Joomla! Part of the reason I came to RT was the SMF theme club > . It didn't take to see why the SMF club was closed - it is a pain to keep Joomla! + SMF + necessary bridges updated and integrated.
RT looks so nice because of the knowledge and experience of Andy. Not only that, he probably has access to a lot of other people 'in the know' to be able to tweak whatever code is necessary to make and keep RT looking tight. For a site of this size and popularity SMF is the way to go. I would even say RT is simple yet elegant - not an easy thing to accomplish.
Now that I've done a lot more work to this site, I thought I might follow up on this particular topic.
Our forums
are definitely much better than they were before. I still haven't edited any Joomlaboard CSS yet. The good looks are an overall theme change to Mobius (for which I eagerly await youyou's updated version) and add-in modules for Joomlaboard.
I've no doubt that Joomlaboard will continue to get better so I'll stick with it for now.
