How healthy are you?

  • How healthy are you?

    • I just had my visit with the doc last Wed. to get a little help quitting smoking. At 34, I have gained 13 pounds in the last year (computer job) and my blood pressures's a little high. I'm not obese, it is just starting to catch up with me. I was 140 lbs. lol....

I never gave my health a second though until recently. I ate and drank whatever I wanted. I drink waaaaaaaay too much Mountain Dew.

So here are a few things I am working on personally.

      1. Quitting smoking - Trying out the drug Chantix (weird dreams)
      2. Cutting back on the Mountain Dew and drinking more water
      3. Starting an exercise program. (walking, basic stuff to lose the little belly I got going on!)

I'm not going on a huge health kick here. I always ate properly, but I just want to shore up the edges and improve myself.

How healthy is your body? Have you gave it any thought?

      Cheers,

      Mike

    • Im glad that you decided to stop smoking...ive been trying for years to stop my entire family smoking!

Health issues are probably not a real concern to someone of my age but i do think about my health in some manor.

I do not smoke, i do not drink excessively but my diet is debatable. I eat loadsa of snacks but never really fast food meals. However, i also eat a lot of healthy food...i absolutely adore fruit and veg and chocolate. I do wonder sometimes what a dietrition would say about my diet.

Even with all this food, i have never been fat and according to my Body Mass index, im underweight even though i almost never stop eating (no joke).

I do not excersie much...my day normally involves, getting up, going to college then coming home and going on my computer. However, it all depends on how much walking is classed as excerise, i do a hell of a lot of walking at college so ill say thats my excersise

Could you clarify what Mountain Dew is?

I wonder how healthy us RTers actually are

    • I am not in shape at all. I have been too lazy for too long. Recently, I've been getting back into tennis and stepping up my game (hence taking over austintennisclub.com to get involved and make sure I stick with it. heh)

I have begun my "no smoking" trial. I've made it a whole 29 hours so far!

I turn 30 in 16 months, and I want to be in the best shape of my life when I turn 30. Here's wishing me luck.

    • James,

Mountain Dew is a popular soft drink (like Coke or Pepsi) but it is LOADED with sugars! I live off of it..

      http://mountaindew.com

I never gave a second thought when I was in my teens or 20's as to what I ate or drank. It is catching up with now.

      @ John,

Congrats on taking the quitting plunge! I managed to quit for 6 months over a year ago. Then I got stupid and started again....

      ...this time I will CONQUER!!

      Cheers,

      Mike

    • Mike, James and John, great thread. I'm sitting here, as we type, having a tall glass of freshly juiced carrot, celery and broccoli juice. I eat pretty healthy and have never smoked. I see the folks around me that are my age struggling with health issues and I just thank God that I have my health. I know that one day entropy is going to have it's way and I'll lay me down and take the celestial dirt nap, but for now, I'd encourage everyone to sacrifice little (or a lot) to get in shape an stay in shape. There are RT templates to enjoy and use. That's hard to do from six foot under!

That is probably the most motivating statement for anyone at RT :o

Yes. Hmmm... I'll have to think about that one. There must be something there!

    • Do we need to start another Forum category specifically for health tips? Maybe we should be requesting a "fitness site template"?

That'd be sweet. Start the RT Fitness Blog....

      Go the whole nine yards.

    • Oh... and no-smoking day 2. The shakes have been very minor. But I wonder if that's just in anticipation of the next template......
