Gantry on Joomla 1.6 got: XML error: syntax error at line 1
Posted 13 years 6 months ago
I used the template and customized it after installation. Then, all of the sudden, without installing anything else, I tried to modify the template trough Joomla Template Manager, and got this error message (XML error: syntax error at line 1) on all Rocket Themes. No error on the Joomla pre-installed templates.
I tried uninstalling Joomla. Made the process all over again. Gantry behaves the same way.

hi there,
if you search our forum for that error you'll find some posts about that already.
for one of the members it was a 3rd party extension that caused the problem, so you may have to look around and see what might be causing this on your site.

Hi Kat,
I've tried and follow all thread and suggestions but I still can't solve the problem. I've latest gantry framework installed, all latest rocket extensions. Besides that, I installed:
1. Kunena Forum
2. UDDM Private Messaging
3. Great Joomla Captcha
I've tried to uninstall #2 and #3 but it still doesn't solve the problem. Can you advise please?

I have been having this same error but with Joomla 1.7.1 and 1.7.3. I have reinstalled Gantry and the default template, turned off all the components I had installed , and still am getting the XML error at line 1. Caching is also disabled for my site.
The server meets Gantry's requirements but that it's Litespeed, it doesn't have mod_xml installed. I contacted my provider and he told me that libxml was installed, and that litespeed is supposed to be drop-in compatible with Apache. He said I should contact my software provider first, and if there's a problem with Litespeed he'll fix it :cheesy:
I'm posting in this thread because I didn't want to post a new thread with nearly the same subject heading . . .
Thanks!
**edit** On a whim I installed Mission Control to see if it would display this error and yes, it does also on the template edit page.

For what it's worth, I ended up having to change hosting providers to Rochen. With the same installation, extensions, etc, all my XML errors disappeared.

Hello
I had the same problem two days ago trying to modify the nebulae template settings from the admin panel. I've installed the template 3 weeks ago and it worked fine until now.
What should I ask to my provider in order to fix the problem?
Thank You for the answer it will be highly appreciated.

Hi there,
Whenever a template "stops working" it is nearly always due to one of two things...
1.) You added a new extension/plugin and/or updated existing extensions/plugins or
2.) Your host changed something on the server.
Have you changed global configuration so debug is on and error reporting set to maximum? Sometimes this enables you to see the actual error code.
Hope this helps

Thanx for the suggestion.
I'll try to reinstall everything and monitoring the errors reports.
However i'm having hardtime to find a clue on what is written in the log at the bottom of the page.
Can U help me to find out what happened? I don't see really significant errors.

Hi there,
Can you PM me with a temporary Super Admin access please and I will take a look to see what the cause may be.
Thanks
