    Gantry does not save the layout options

    Posted 14 years 7 months ago
    • I installed the new Quantive template, which I think is the most awesome template in months. I used Quasar a while ago, but I'm still new to the Gantry framework. One thing I noticed is that Gantry doesn't seem to save my layout choices in the backend template menu. Although I published two modules in Showcase positions (one in showcase-a one in showcase-f) and set the slider bar to Positions: 2 and 9|3 the next time I open the template options it still says:

      Showcase - You have currently 0 positions published.
      Positions: 4
      3|3|3|3

      Do I have to configure something specifically or why doesn't it register the two published positions? FYI: It also gives me params.ini unwritable (I manually set the permissions to 755 and 666).

    • Greetings all,
      I am having the same problem. Gantry is saying that I currently have 0 positions published.
      Please advise.
      Thanks,
      Marcia

    • Two things. Make sure you are using the latest Gantry (2.5.4).

      As well when you select the 2 positions on the slider bar you are not forcing it to 2 positions you are only setting the layout when only 2 positions are published.

      Is it showing correctly on the front end when you display only 2 published positions? ie the 9/3

      hi thor,

      did you assign those 2 modules in showcase-a and showcase-f to the frontpage?
      also make sure that you fully understand how these layout sliders are being used, you check the info here, make sure to watch the awesome video too:

    • Hi

      Are you sure that your params.ini file is writeable?

      This is probably the cause of your problems....

    • I repeatedly get the params unwritable error, and have to manually go into the file manager on my host site and change it before I go into gantry. Not sure what the cause could be. I have a friend with the same host (HostGator) who has the same problem. According to her, HostGator says it's a Joomla issue. Does anyone know anything about this issue?

    • hi there,

      yes, this is a known joomla bug which seems to appear on certain servers only.

      very often the changes actually do get saved, even if the params.ini says it is unwritable.
      worth to give this a try.

      if it does not work, you may try to enable your ftp layer in the joomla global configuration.

      if this doesn't help as well, then you can try to add some changes to ../administrator/components/com_templates/controller.php

      find below codes:
      // Try to make the params file unwriteable
      if (!$ftp['enabled'] && JPath::isOwner($file) && !JPath::setPermissions($file, '0555')) {
      and change to:
      // Try to make the params file unwriteable
      if (!$ftp['enabled'] && JPath::isOwner($file) && !JPath::setPermissions($file, '0755')) {
