    • Have no fear we have been working on 1.6 stuff for a while, since the betas started really. We have just found so many hurdles with 1.6 that we never had to deal with in 1.5. Because we bend 1.5 so much we are finding it hard to implement somethings we take for granted in 1.5 because 1.6 doesn't allow for as much 'bending'. We're working on solutions though.

What do you mean by bending?

In reality, everyone is eager to update to the latest Joomla 1.6, No matter what you say, thats a fact. The longer RT delays in rolling out updates, the more more customers it will lose. I dont want to leave RT, but i will not hesitate to move elsewhere if my customers want 1.6 and I can't deliver.

STOP what you are doing and slowly back away from the keyboard!

    • Perhaps for many who use and are familiar with 3rd party extensions that make 1.5 do the things 1.6 is bringing it may be a no brainer to wait longer. I guess many of us that have been waiting forever are just happy to see it getting stable and are eager to use it. And I do think some clients will be impatient as well.

That said I'm sure what Andy is getting at is that RT has gone a long way to improve on 1.5 to make the wait more bearable and in doing so it may take a bit more time to come up with the proper solution to bend those improvements into some of the limitations of 1.6

I haven't tried Mission Control yet but does it or any other solution make the back end of 1.5 as time saving to navigate as 1.6? That certainly is the main thing I'm impatiently waiting for, most of the other features in 1.6 while awesome just have yet to apply to me.

That is a clear statement which helps a lot when one has to find arguments for Joomla 1.5 if customers want the "brand new car"!

    • "We plan to release version 1.6.0 on 10 January 2011, assuming we don't find any High or Medium High issues that we are unable to fix before then."

So close now... for Joomla anyway, not 1.6 RT templates :P

    • I notice people are being quite sceptical about Rockettheme's ability to provide 1.6 templates. Now, I don't work for Rockettheme but the fact that these people build all these extensions and templates so rapidly, I'm sure they covered this.

However, as Rockettheme has a nice blog etc, it is a missed opportunity for them not informing their visitors the status on 1.6. I can imagine that potential customers will definitely look out for this!

PS: I found this thread through google by looking for "Rockettheme joomla 1.6"

    • I wouldn't say people are being skeptical, just realistic. You're talking about not only moving a template over but an entire framework. So I think the RocketTeam is being honest with people rather than play on the hype. A better long term, well thought out business decision.

As I've said before, I was one who started building a production site when 1.5 was in RC status, I won't make that mistake again!

IMHO...better to wait until the dust settles and templates/components do catch up in their own time.

I really don't see any "must have" reason to upgrade IMMEDATELY...(note: a need is very different than a want) that said, if they had included comments, and a native CCK like drupal then I'd be screaming louder than anyone! But since they don't, I can wait...

I am compiling a list of Components, Modules and Plug Ins that I use daily. Once they are all 1.6 compatible I'll start testing. But not before ALL are there. No need to get myself frustrated, it only leads to more coffee and/or beer.

      Merry Christmas!

      Rich

Edit: But I do agree with your point about a blog post. Andy...get that Elf "James" and his legalese...to work. Otherwise no Christmas Pudd!

    • Comment self-edited for being a bit brash, sentiment remains.

It would be great to see a status update on RocketTheme's Joomla 1.6 integration. There is no doubt the transition is a huge undertaking on extensions alone, which I hope get upgraded first with the first 1.6 template.

As stated previously RT and other 3rd parties have gone way out there to make Joomla 1.5 more extensible and figuring out how to maintain that level of power with a 1.6 integration is probably way more work then just making these things 1.6 compatible. Sounds to me like many parts need a complete engineering overhaul.

While 1.6 is not the end all many of us that use RocketTheme would like to start using it when it goes stable. Is it possible for the RT team to provide a way to keep us informed as to where you are with the integration?

      Thanks and Happy Holidays everyone...
