      Hello!
I have the same question, but instead of changing the link of the "read more" text I would like to change the default link of the Thumbnail to a html page.

I asked this question on Dec. 02, 2009 in the rocketLabs section and I am still waiting for an answer....
I found this post here, and as it has been answered my hopes for an answer here are up.

      Thanks...

      Sorry for that. Answered: www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=17..._v=viewtopic#p449591

      hi glenn,

sorry to hear that boris and you are unhappy with the support.

first of all i would like to point out our terms of service which include the following:
      13. Support: RocketTheme offers these extensions and designs ‘as is’, with no implied meaning that they will function exactly as you wish or with all 3rd party components and modules. Further, we offer no support via email or otherwise for installation, customization, administration, etc. A private members-only forum is available to Template Club members. RocketTheme does not commit to monitor these forums, but we reserve the right to respond and answer questions. You acknowledge by your use of the extensions that it is at your sole risk, and that you assume full responsibility for all costs associated with all necessary servicing or repairs of any equipment you use in connection with the extensions.

      ...
      hope this helps, kat :)
Great. Everything in this site suggests that support is available... including the forums in which I've read answers to numerous questions and where it APPEARS that support is being given. But in section 13?! of the agreement, you declaim any responsibility for support?!

I'm simply trying to understand where certain coding goes to get the content where I want it. I've read, reread and read again JEM's "simple organization" thread, but it tells you to "make sections, then categories" which is easy. It doesn't tell you how to get the articles that you've created and put into sections and categories into a menu or into a module.

I posted a quesion yesterday... NowI don't even know if my question falls into the rules of what I should expect an answer for or not... back to read the agreement I guess. OR can someone tell me what is being provided in these forums if it isn't support "for installation, customization, administration, etc."

    • First: I have always had excellent support in these forums for the past 3+ years, so I can't comment on any problems in that area.

Second: To get a section or a category into a menu item, you set up a menu item that points to that section or category. If you go to the Menu --> Main Menu --> New Menu Item --> Articles, you will see various options, including Section and Category. Put your mouse over the options, and you will see a short explanation.

There is also help for Joomla issues like that at docs.joomla.org/ - content organisation is a Joomla question and is not related to the template that you use - unless I have misinterpreted your question. There is a good Beginner's Guide there that has taught me a lot about how to set up m Joomla sites over the years - I still go to the part of the Joomla site for help sometimes.

After you create (a) Section(s) and Category (Categories), you create Articles.

When you do so, you can choose which Section and Category you want the Article to be save to.

In the screen shots, you can see under the Article title and alias, there are drop downs for choosing Sections and Categories.

In the first, I choose, 'About Joomla!' as the Section.

Doing so, the Category drop down is populated with the three Categories that are in that section.

By choosing one of them, my Article will be saved under the 'About Joomla!' Section under which ever Category I choose.

As far as menus go, the three most basic menus are Frontpage Blog Layout, Section Blog Layout, or Category Layout.

After you've created Sections and Categories, and saved Articles to them, you can make Menus that will display the content from (for Frontpage Blog Layout any Article you set to publish to the FP) any Section or Category you've created.

    • John and Jem,

Thanks so much for your reply. I'd asked an extensive question in another area and have been fiddling with that and just noticed your replies.

I'm not sure I'm asking the question correctly. I have a Main Menu with 7 topics (each a section blog), and each topic has between 2 and 5 subtopics (each a category blog). So if I write what I call a feature story (a longish piece by web standards, say 2 pages in a print magazine), I want it to appear in the following ways:

      1. In RokStories on the homepage when its one of the 4 most recent features posted.
      2. On the page that is created when the user clicks either the "leadership" topic or the "leader profile" sub-topic from the main menu.

So I think I understand that sections are the drawer (leadership) the categories are the folder within a drawer (leader profile) and the article is placed in the folder. I can connect an article, my feature on a leader, to show up on the page. But I can't do the next step: get that story to appear in Rokstories on the homepage when it's one of the most recent 4 features.

Now, I also have been able get this story to appear in Rokstories on the home page: I put the story in section called "feature," then in a category called "Rokstoryfeature" for it to appear in Rokstories on the homepage, but then I don't see how I could get it to show up when a user clicks the "Leadership" menu. It's like I've run out of database categorie or
that I'm not using the architecture of Joomla properly.

I've looked at K2 to see about adding cateories, but I haven't been able to figure out how it combines with the Joomla database.

Finally, I'm now exploring the following to see if they give me more ways to label, and thus call up, a story.

      1. FJ Related Articles Blog and List Component
Break free from Joomla's Section and Category restrictions. Did you ever want to put an article into two or more categories? List selected articles from multiple sections and categories? Create a blog or list based on author? This new component allows ...
      2. Subcategories Patch for Joomla 1.5
Add subcategories to Content Manager, Contact Manager, Manager RSS and Link Manager. New menu link: Blog Catalog and List Catalog. Modify Category Blog and List... Enable or disable sub-categories in one click in component administration. Modify twenty ...

      Any thoughts?
      Thanks again for your help.

    • Pat,

Without add ons and hacks it can be done they way you want.

      1. Add your full article to the correct Section/Category. (Leadership/Profile)
      2. Add a "teaser" of the article (Intro text and Photo) to "Rokstoryfeature" category but write your own custom read more with a link to the full article in Leadership/Profile.

This way you actually get a little more control over what you display in your RokStories; meaning that you can show from any section or category because you are writing them as strategic teasers.

You also have more control over the text link which is very helpful for SEO.

I use the same thing for roktabs all the time.

      For this question:
I've looked at K2 to see about adding cateories, but I haven't been able to figure out how it combines with the Joomla database.

It doesn't. K2 imports from the Joomla standard dB and puts the content into it's own. That's one thing I really don't like about K2, is that is doesn't use com_content. But I do use K2 on some sites.

      Hope it helps,

      Rich

    • Hello,

I need help as well with adding custom html to a link in the Featured products article in the Mynxx template. I will pay for another membership if I know what I am trying to do is possible and you will help me achieve this once I pay.

I need to add 3 paypal button/forms to the button within the Featured Product article. I am sure this is simple but as everyone has stated before me, I can't get access to the Mynxx template forum for help because my membership expired. Please let me know in advance that you can help and you will before I pay again.

      Thanks
