Why suddenly all the ATI gfx talk?
Some time ago ATI gfx was good, but all the newer 8800's from Nvidia blows away ATI..
      Or did I miss something?

I'm an avid gamer, graphics guy and I do video editing on a small scale and I am an Nvidia guy. I know... I know... I should support ATI since they are a Canadian company and I'm a Canadian, but I just plain like Nvidia's products better.

Wasnt really aimed at you or anything.. Dave just asked about the best and suddenly people mentioned ATI graphics as being the best for gaming - they were, but def. not now :)

I have ATI myself, but would change to the Nvidia 8800 series if my pockets allowed me to :)

Dave, I have the Core 2 Duo 2 X 1.86 and it just screams.
Asus EN7600GT 256 meg PCI Express video card - HDTV Out.
1 gig DDR II 533 mhz RAM pc4200
      Sound Blaster X-Fi sound card

I can play games at the highest settings, even using the HDR setting with Oblivion and I get uber high frames per second.

I have never slowed this puppy down, it can handle everything that I throw at it!

As an aside, I have been a "trackball" user for quite some time. Whether gaming, doing graphics or just general computing, I swear by my marble mouse. I takes about 2 days to get used to and a lifetime to love! I'll never go back to a mouse!!

      Happy computing Dave!

I've been running into several folks that have switched over to a trackball. They've got me wondering what is it that I've been missing!

Oh, don't worry, Dan. That processor is coming out one day soon. I'll also replace the ATI card for to Nvida 8800s. It's a SLI motherboard and can only use a single ATI card.

Quite correct, Thomas. But I didn't need to spend that much on this first go-around. I bought a motherboard that will handle those cards as well as Quad Core. In due time!

BTW, I'll have a 1950 ATI card for sale in a couple of three months. Any takers? A good price!

Thanks, Andrew. I ended up getting a Striker Extreme at MicroCenter.

BTW, I got two 74 GB 10k RPM drives and Striped the Raid O together and made that the boot drive. Woot!

We all know you got an extra 20k laying around.

If you only knew, Mack! I love the Alienware boxes. There doesn't seem to be anything like them!

Dell has recently purchased Alienware... I'm not quite sure how I feel about that.

Btw (completely unrelated note) - the Asus website was offering up more than information recently... it was infecting users (that were vulnerable) the .ani virus (animated cursor)!I believe that the site is cleaned up now.
