    • Well this decision has affected me and a lot of webmasters out there, so for simple sites who dosen´t need profesional extensions i will still use Joomla!.

The rest is for Typo3... at least they dont tell you what you may use or what don´t.

      Cheers

Any that do get developed though, run the risk of being sued. OSM has said they don't want to sue, but comments by individual members of OSM and the core seem to imply otherwise.

sorry. its things like this that are blowing it out of proportion. while i appreciate what you're saying there is a simple way around this that keeps everyone happy - some have already seen it and i doubt it will be long before the others see it

as i've said earlier. yes, we are affected right now. but most, if not all non gpl developers, will come back once they see the error of their ways, for pretty much the exact same reason they got involved in the first place

    • I just can tell that I'm waiting to see. I didn't have the opportunity to read licences and several thread about this matter. In reality I have faith that the devs will come back to joomla.
Few days ago, I purchased 2 books; one for joomla components, modules and mambos dev; another one for Drupal modules dev. With time, I want to dev simples scripts just for my needs :D For sure, i will develop some sites with Drupal too because I'm very interested to use it. So Andy I hope you will open the Drupal club soon ;)

At the moment I have joomla and Drupal in my mind!

    • I had looked at Drupal... seems a good solid choice,, also looked at Typo3 which I REALLY liked...

but for now sticking with J!1.X and all of the GPL extensions...most of the ones I payed for,, in time,,while they "looked" better,, did not perform as well as GPL versions.

the only pay for plugins worth it in the end was a PM system and a Certain Blog system... I have paid A LOT for extensions over the last 6 months that I have been using while developing my site....sadly,, they could not be used because of promised features that never developed or compatibility issues with other plugins or browsers.

but as I see it as Joom moves forward beyond 1.5 what then? will these tried and trusted GPL extensions be there??

so I see the point for 3PD's making $$$ to keep the functionality moving forward to match joom and other technology.

I could care a less about the enforcement of GPL, but on the other hand 3PD's have to start acting like real business'...Im sick of spending my hard earned only to find non existent support, or just forums where you have to go digging for answers on your own and if you dare ask, they give you that typical " this has been covered before,, search the forum "................to me that is arrogant disrespect

I still have not figured out the difference between the mambofoundation mambo and the mamboserver mambo or are they the same?
Hi TJay...there is only one Mambo. Mamboserver.com is now basically a fan site like mamboportal used to be and mambo-foundation.org is the official home of the project.

Regarding whether or not I will continue to use Joomla, my stance since the time of the split has been, and remains to be that Mambo and Joomla are only software. We build sites that customers pay for and they expect certain things. They don't care what software we use to build the site...and frankly, neither do we. We are in the business of selling web sites...and that's just what it is; business. We will use the right tool for the job. We repeatedly pay for commercial extensions and will continue to do so. If that means we must revert to Mambo so we can use the extensions we need...so be it. We are also looking into other CMSs as possible replacements in the event neither can provide the functionality we need.

And as usual a very wise position to take. I have been reading the news on Mambo and think I will give it a go after the next release.
Good to see you again. Seems like some of us have been around here forever.

    • Yeah, phpbb3 is GPL. Just been testing it and it looks pretty sweet.
