Fiji??? (Off topic momentarily... Gollum... tell me the truth.... Is Fiji Water ( www.fijiwater.com/ ) really from artesian wells... or do you pull it off a spikot in the kitchen?:-)

hehehe *evil laugh* ... thats a national secret.. if you found out the truth... i'd have to ki..

nah its for real James. its artesian. the fiji water factory itself is pretty much off the beaten path... i dont think they even have municipal/piped water to the facility... its all from deep down. a friend went on tour of the factory a couple o years ago for a school project... its artesian alright.

... + they'd have gone broke years ago if they relied on tap water.... on my street the taps are dry 6hours a day )&6&^&!!

Thanks a LOT for the new inputs.... damn I am soooo tempted to get that 24" iMac :)

BTW, the new 24" imac is a core duo2, so it's a pretty darn nice dual core machine.. Plenty fast.

    • Yeah I hope so.. :)
Btw should I config it with 2 or 3 gb ram. Right now my PC only got 2 gb but it seems to run fine.
Just curious if that 1 extra gb would matter a lot (in the mac shop it seems awfully expensive to get that extra memory)..

    • i very much doubt you'll need more than 2gigs of RAM... if you could replace what you have with faster RAM, that would be ideal... but more RAM??..nah.

... then again thats heaps more $$ to be spent.

    • More ram the better. My new mac pro (when i get it) will probably have 6 or 8 gigs, you'll be amazed how fast firefox, safari, photoshop, and fireworks run through memory when your running them together.

One, note, DO NOT BUY MEMORY FROM APPLE! it's uber expensive. There are many other 3rd party places to get memory. When you get to that point, let me know and i'll point you to the best places.

    • I use a Mac. Its a great tool for graphic works. There are heaps of free applications. Its does pretty much as PC does. You can even plug-in your PC mouse to it and all the functions work. Such as: wheel scrolling, and right-click works.

For any web-development. Its good to have a PC for testing as well as Mac. Websites on Mac will look different on PC. It looks better, because the text is render anti-alias.

I use iBook G4 (640mb RAM) machines. 1ghz. Its two years old, and still pretty fast. No Viruses, spyware and adware problem.
My last machine was G4 450mhz (x2) it lasted me 4.5 years.

Ok today I had fun with the 24" iMac in a Mac shop, and damn I am falling in love with it.. Probably not the Mac with most muscles - but I like the simple look of it...

      Hi Thomas,
honestly, soon as you get a MAC you'll find so many high quality applications that your best windows software will look like hundreds years old. ;D

      Regarding your list:
Notepad --> MAC OS X text editor
UltraEdit 32 --> BBEdit (commercial and amazing) or TextWrangler (free, less features) from the same developers.
WS-FTP Pro --> I tried at least 20 FTP clients and the best ever I found is Transmit 3

If you can get a MAC, don't think it twice. Hasta la "Vista" and be ready for Leopard ;D

Oh hi Z - never thought I would meet you here :)

Yeah I am sooo tempted.. Just trying to make up my mind and go for a MacPro instead of the iMac... Got a working 24" Dell monitor right now, so it could be an option as well.

I like that fact that you can update it quite a bit more than the iMac... Still I love the look of the iMac :)

I think the iMac is relly sweet but if you do really need power, go for the MAC Pro. I got the PowerMAC G5 Dual 2 months before the MAC Pro announcement, aaargh!! :o

It all depends how you will use it and how much money you have to spend. But one point is always the same: you will ask yourself for the rest of your life how were you able to stay so long with Windows... lol ;D ...really, no matter what model you'll choose.

@Andy: wow, the next one you're going to get is a monster :o
