Replacing the favicon

  • Replacing the favicon

    • I uploaded the new image and put the code in index.php on the template. Is that correct?

      This is the code I used, all I did was to replace the ABC with my own website. The reason I ask is because it's not working

      <link rel="icon" href=" www.abc.com/myicon.ico " type="image/x-icon" />
      <link rel="shortcut icon" href=" www.abc.com/myicon.ico " type="image/x-icon" />

      How to add a favicon

      Place the favicon.ico in the Joomla root directory and add these lines to rt_head_includes.php (or index.php if you use an old template):
      <link href="/favicon.ico" rel="shortcut icon" type="image/x-icon" />
      <link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://yoursite.com/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />

      If you have favicons located elsewhere, delete them and their code references.

      Still doesn't show up? Clear cache and delete all temporary files and restart your browser.

      If this doesn't work in IE then please check that the favicon is a valid Windows icon.

    • Actually, it is working now, it must have had something to do with the cache. You don't need to add any code, just replace the default joomla favicon with your own

    • Google for 'create favicon' you'll find sites where you can create various types.

    • If you just want a basic favicon then visit the link below. If you scroll down to step two, there is a small link to where you just upload any size photo and the website does the rest for you, you then download the zip file and it's already just to be uploaded onto your server, so simple, you don't have to do anything. I noticed that there was also an animated favicon included in the package that I haven't tested it yet

    • Good Morning,
      I'm also trying to replace the Joomla favicon with my new one.

      Where is the favicon located? I can't seem to find it.

      Thanks,
      Matthew

      Take a look in this thread, there are detailed instructions for doing so.

    • JEM,
      I checked that discussion already. I can't locate the rt_head_includes.php file anywhere in my Joomla installation (Meridian). I must be missing something here?
      Thanks,
      Matthew

    • Believe me, creating and replacing your favicon is a piece of cake. This is how I do it. Use your favorite photo editing software [photoshop is my favorite]. Create the image that you want as your favicon. It doesn't matter how big it is, the software used to create it will resize the original image. Then upload the image to the website link on this page. Then download the newly created favicon onto your computer and just replace the default image with your own, it is located in the images folder. you don't have to change any file names. You might have to refresh and clear your cache, it might take a few minutes to show, but that is all you have to do, certainly isn't rocket science.
