    • Hi all

Thought I would start a thread to help myself and others generate ideas about how to promote our websites. Perhaps through non traditional ways or free/cheap methods.

I have got great traffic by creating a free card on www.bla.st (It is basically a visual directory).

I know it is nothing new but I have been submitting a few articles to digg.com and the traffic I have been getting has been huge.

      Keen to hear from others.............

    • DMOZ just started receiving submissions again a few weeks ago(their site submission system was down for a few months)

Is anyone here an editor? Their 'become-an editor' system is still down. Their websites from my region haven't been updated in ages. DMOZ no longer represents the best sites(content wise) for each category (in my region). I've been dying to become an editor.

Oh... back to the topic... i find for my news/reports/opinion site, i submitted feeds to topix.net and have received considerable traffic. Unfortunately I was too far along with my site before I found out that google news would only accept feeds if the url had at least a three digit number in it. I' would break all my inward links if I now changed my section names to be numbers and included the section names in my SEF URL's... and i've worked so so hard to get those inward links.

OK this is more about site analysis and visitor monitoring than website promotion... but does anyone here use http://www.crazyegg.com/ ? Their heatmaps look pretty good. another relevant link here

    • Perhaps we could start a RTTC link exchange? I think incoming links will help no end to improve Google ranking. It's one thing I really need to get sorted...my PR is still zero :(

    • Thats actually a very good idea Dan - As we all know incoming links are very important in terms of organic rankings in Google. But from what I have been reading page rank isn't as important as people make out.

I would be keen to look into link exchanges with other members....

I like the idea too :)
Just would like to mention a curious situation about Google PR. I was waiting for a long time (more than 4 months) to see the PR0 of one of my sites increase to PR4. But with another site I was waiting only for 3 days to have a PR3 in the index :D
      Incredible GG!

it may or may not be as important as it's made out to be, but it sure impresses clients... and their visitors. :)

I'm not really sure if page rank takes into account whether the links are one-way or exchanged links, but i know for sure that one way (incoming) links from a relevant(to the recipient website's content) source are very very important.

    • Cool, I'm up for some exchanging.

I guess my only hesitation is that some links could be...errr...a conflict of interest? I mean, there are lots in the same line of business; it may not make sense for web design-developers to link to others in the same line of business...or perhaps I'm off the mark? I suppose for some it may not be a problem but for me, every job is another month's mortgage payment ;)

      Thoughts?

    • i have to agree with Dan about the conflict of interest. In the old days this woulda been great... for example i could say "We are the best web designers in Timbuktu, but if you're in the New Zealand and need web designing, check out [david white's site here]. If you happen to live on the moon, we recommend so and so". But these days, with elance, rent-a-coder, scriptlance etc, well, we're all in the same marketplace.

however, we aren't all commercial web designers on rockettheme, and i can see the potential.
