Servage has been great, 500GB of space and 5TB transfer for $90/yr. You can do multiple domains under your one account - and it's "real" multi-site hosting, unlike GoDaddy's way of doing it, which puts all sites off the main one and aliases the domain name.
I had about 15 sites at one time on my Servage account with no noticeable speed or performance issues, and about 4 of them were Joomla installs, several Wordpress, and a few static/sales letter-type sites. I've had only minimal downtime (maybe 2-3 times for a few minutes) in the almost two years I've been using Servage, much less than any other host I've been on. Speed is good. I currently have all but one of sites cleaned off and redesigning things, but you can check out my one live site at

Support at Servage is awesome - fast response times, EVERY time within about 10-15 minutes on all my tickets.
Servage unfortunately recently removed their Joomla autoinstaller, but it is still easy to do a manual install.
GoDaddy's autoinstaller for Joomla is nice, but their hosting doesn't give me quite enough control and there are some things that just don't work for me. I would recommend Servage if you want to build a really robust site (and need multi-site hosting), and need to create folders outside the html directory (good for securing downloads).

Its been said several times already.. but my suggestion would be Rochen.
I've yet to have hassle or issue come from Rochen. You will always find a better price from some cheap service, but the piece of mind with Rochen is worth the few extra dollars each month.
Great customer service and their own active forums are added benefits as well.

The positive reply about BlueHost is surprising to me a my sites are going down daily. I would love to have a resolution to the problem. I have really liked their services up until my using Joomla sites. I have asked their support multiple times if there is something that I am doing or can do to prevent the issues.

bluehost are fine but you are paying for what you get
bluehost were one of my first hosts and out of loyalty i've kept them - you are limited on certain things and if you have a busy site you've got to move but for the smaller sites, or just for space to store stuff they're very good
always read the terms of service would be my advice - sometimes a host might have a good deal or you might think you're paying more for something because it is supremley better but then the T)S could bite you on your arse
Thanks, Damo. My sites are not that comprehensive or busy now. Only a few hundred people know about the "live" one and I am the ONLY person accessing the one being developed; however, they are both going down often. I too have not had problems in the past with BlueHost and would like to remain loyal. There has to be something that I have done to cause a glitch if other folks are successfully running Joomla 1.5.7 sites with BlueHost.
The sites had existed successfully for several months and only started exhibiting problems within the last two weeks. I think that I remember doing something to "index files" as I read somewhere that this makes things faster. However, I do not remember what I did to index things (whether it was in the PHP admin or Joomla configuration). Could that have anything to do with it?
some hosts I find will install joomla and automatically chmod all the correct directories and you will notice in the directory permissions after installation that they are all set. But other hosts I have found will not do this and after you have installed joomla you have to go in and manually change all the permissions each time you do a new site. this can get quite frustrating at times especially if you are working on a lot of sites.
i'm fairly sure it's not your problem, but you should update to 1.5.8
however, i just tried to look at your site and it's still not coming up and in that time i managed to do a whois on it and i've opened up one of my sites at bluehost and yours is still not loading - but the server is fine
maybe there is something on your site that is not loading which in turn is then not loading the rest of your site
I have decided to completely redo the RocketLaunch installation as I am having so many problems. If you care to, please see my last post below to see if this might work:
It occurred to me that my problems MAY have to do with my moving the sites from one folder to another a couple of weeks ago so I want to start with a fresh install while keeping my current content in the live site, if possible.
Newbie Question: in using RocketLauncher, how do I update to 1.5.8?
Thanks, Josepha
