I am on Dreamhost and my site too is very slow but unlike you I have only SMF bridge and related module (login module) installed.

Do you use SMF and the SMF bridge for Joomla? if so this could be the cause.

      Joomla 1.0.12
      SMF 1.1.2
Orstio's SMF bridge for Joomla v1.1.7
      Database Version: 5.0.24a-standard-log
      PHP Version: 5.2.0
      Web Server: Apache/1.3.37

      Peter,
I am using JSMF as it keeps getting updated, has alot more features (other than the core features that oristo's also has) and can even integrate alot with CB.

      Joomla 1.0.12
SMF 1.1.1 (Can you tell me what changed in 1.1.2?
      JSMF Bridge 2.0.2
      Database Version: Don't know?
      PHP Version: 5.2.0
      Web Server: Don't know?

I have an SMF forum with 13,000 members and 200,000 posts, and it is quite resource intensive. If you are going to be running a high traffic Joomla site as well as SMF you will need some serious resources.

This is what changed in SMF 1.1.2

Fixed a possible injection issue when following a corrupt personal message link. (Reported by Aria Security)
Fixed a potential issue with cached image attachments on Internet Explorer. (Reported by Jessica Hope)
Disallowed the use of 0 sized fonts with the font BBC tag.
Sending a news letter to a email address with a quote in it would fail.
Fixed a bug in PCRE causing regular expressions to fail in UTF-8 mode.
Fixed package manager not uninstalling mods using the "end" search method correctly.
Fixed a couple of bugs related to quick edit in a topic.
Added setting for toggling difficulty of visual verification image.
Fixed javascript bug when adding a poll to a topic.
Fixed bug which meant merging topics would not always work.
Fixed bug causing an error when deleting a board in certain circumstances.
Changed permissions so users with the manage_permission permission cannot promote themselves above this.
Added work around for people upgrading to a sha1 supporting PHP version which was invalidating user passwords.
Fixed undefined index bug when including SSI from the forum.
Fixed path being incorrect in package manager.
Fixed password reminder not checking password strength.
Restricted display name to only sixty characters.
Worked around issues with emails not being displayed correctly on all webmail clients.

      Sweet!
Please post the name of this module/component when you do find it.
I would like to play with that as I have had ideas of creating a module that could do just that.
Well the one I found is a commercial product. :(

    • When I get another server, how do I make it so a subdomain of the domain that is accessable on the new server, work in the old server .

In example I have an Images or Movies Media Subdomain and want to use Dreamhost for that because it uses alot of space and stuff which I have on Dreamhost.

You would do it using an NS record. For example; if your subdomain was called "movies", you would have an "A" record in the zone file for your domain.

You will need a dedicated IP address at Dreamhost to do this.

    • no what Im going to do is for example add folders with most viewed images (tab_bg of profile, heading of forum etc. ) to media.xboxuserspace.com and link from the site to them, though the site will be on a different server but just using that space and traffic.

I will also add the whole "360 Uploads Upload System" from my old site to media.xboxuserspace.com which will have the same affect.. being owned and having a subdomain from Xbox User Space but on Dreamhost server because I have tons of traffic and space quota on there.

    • I don't know if this helps... but a while back I had the same problem with my server. I monitored my server stats and i wasn't anywhere close to my bandwidth allotment. I have a program called NeoTrace Pro. I pinged my server and discovered that there were 6 consecutive DNS servers with very high latency and two of those were not responding at all. It ended up being all AT&T which I contacted my host (godaddy) and they were able to contact AT&T and they did maintenance on their DNS servers.

I really recommend you try out NeoTrace pro. It helps to see exactly what's going on.

You may have a similar problem as I did!
