Expired members get no access to forums

Posted 18 years 4 days ago
    • I find this pretty lame.

I paid for the three month subscription, then when it expired and I wanted to look for a solution in the forum, all the forums for the templates have been disabled.

That is effectively like selling someone a product and then taking away their instruction manual 3 months later!!

I made seven posts, and now I only see one in the general area. That's pretty crafty if you keep the solutions that other people post about your templates but deny them access to it.

      Thanks Rocket Theme.

I definitely wouldn't get Rocket Theme again because of this, and a word of warning to those who purchase it in the future.

    • If you renew your membership, you will gain access to the forums again.

Alternatively, you could ask for help in these forums in a positive manor and I am sure you will get a response before it is moved to the appropriate section

The reason for this is simple, it is almost impossible to regulate which members should have access to which section. For example, if you had continued access, you would have access to the latest template threads and sections. The alternative is a very complex structure, hacking the entire main frame to dynamically allow people access to the areas that they have paid for.

This is just not a viable and controllable option.

I hope that clarifies a few points

    • I've done my best to make it very clear that this is a subscription based club. It's like a health cub, when your subscription expires, you can't get in and use the gym anymore. The 3 month membership is $50 and the 1 year is $75, that's $25 difference for a whole year and near 40 templates, plus access to this incredible community forum, it's really a steal, in fact, now i think about it, i probably need to raise the prices :)

    • I fully support Andy on this and I would not be offended if after my membership expired that I would not have access to the members forums - the terms and conditions were clearly laid out when I joined just like when anyone joins.

Another consideration that comes to my mind is, member only forums ensure that template pirates do not have easy access to solutions that they are certainly not entitled to.

As for the "taking away the instruction manual" comment, that could not be further from the truth. The "manuals" are still on the demo pages and the Club Templates pages. You have had your "Support" privledges suspended (access to private member forums), however that is spelled out quite clearly when creates an account.

KVD, I'm sure that if you think about this you will understand where Andy is coming from and that a membership to RTTC is cheap and the information that one can get here is priceless. In my humble opinion, KVD you owe Andy an apology and ought to edit your original post.

If you are able to afford it (did I mention that it is cheap like borsch? ;) ), I'd recommend renewing your membership, heck who knows what snazzy new templates are yet to come plus the access to info... can't go wrong!

      Cheers!

    • But, I want unlimited, endless free support too! :(

I want every problem I ever have to be fixed because I paid $50 once. What a rip off.

In fact I might complain to my power company about why they cut off my power when I stopped paying!
Or my phone, gas, water, sewerage.
Or why do I need to buy more petrol once I bought my car! How lame is that.
      /sarcasm

If you want on going support and service you unfortunately need to pay for it. It's the same in every industry.

You are more than welcome to go join other template clubs by the way. You will find they have exactly the same system, only they charge more and their templates aren't as good, nor is the service you do get.

Even better, go buy a one off template, (they usually charge around $50 for a single template, same as 3 months of templates here) then come back 3 weeks later and ask for support, let alone three months. Like getting blood from a stone. Believe me I have tried.

A one year renewal should be $60. Which is a massive $5 a month for unlimited access to the forums and templates and support.

      That's a bargain not a rip off.

if I'm not mistaken, most of the problems presented on these forums are solved by members and ex-members, not by RT staff.

    • Just to clarify, from the Terms and Conditions :Terms and Conditions wrote:
      11. Support: RocketTheme offers these templates and designs ‘as is’, with no implied meaning that they will function exactly as you wish or with all 3rd party components and modules. Further, we offer no support via email or otherwise for installation, customization, administration of Mambo/Joomla etc. A private members-only forum is available to Template Club members. RocketTheme does not commit to monitor these forums, but we reserve the right to respond and answer questions.

      Cut and dried.

    • Cut and dried while that poilicy is stated at sign up

there has to be a time when a "club" grows up and starts performing as a business with forward thinking.

it is easy to take that position now as the joom phenom takes off, but quickly competition will move in and their policy may be less "stingent"....

what will your club be prepared to do?... adapt? or just say "this is that and thats that"

      Just my opinion :)

    • Hey CG,

This club provides more than any other by a wide margin. Other clubs are much more stringent, cost more, and provide next to no support. Rockettheme is a brand that people know and love, and there is a reason for that.

Just because something doesn't conform to your way of thinking does not make it backwards.
