Re: How to properly upload RocketLauncher Templates to your ROOT

Posted 15 years 2 months ago
    • Hello All,
I'm having major difficulties. I want to have the full demo version of Rocket Launcher Catalyst as my site to start customizing it. My webhost company offered automatic installs of joomla which i had done---so I saw according to your thread that i had to delete and uninstall all that to get rocket launcher to work correctly. So i deleted. Then i downloaded the full Joomla_RT_Catalyst_j15 and unzipped it, then ftp'd it to my site---(my old joomla was installed in the root/htdocs folder so that's where i put the new files?)--which I would think is correct and where my site is pointed--www.sudsstudio.com? I attached the file structure of how it appears.
Now according to the video tutorial it gives a file structure to go to get to the installer which is not working at all for me and i'm having a hard time understanding his accent , he says maybe go to www.yoursite.com/Joomla_active_template_Catalyst_j15
nothing appears when i go there. And after reading these threads they didn't say to go there to download--they said go to www.yoursite.com/Jooma_RT_catalyst_j15 which also didn't work for me. How do i get to the installer page and finish this out so i see the demo and joomla is installed? I apologize, i'm not super techno savvy but i'm trying my best and I just can't get it right? Any help is much appreciated.

      Thank You,
      Stephanie

    • Review these and post back if you still have a problem. :D

      For quick reference:

      NOTE!!!

The Rocket Launcher is for a fresh install ONLY.

It contains a complete version of the latest Joomla release, the template, extensions, and all the sample data you see in the demo. Whether or not you decide to install the sample data is up to you. If you want to replicate the demo site, use it, if you want a clean install of Joomla with the template applied, don’t use it.

You can not use the Rocket Launcher in an existing install of Joomla. If you already have an existing install of Joomla, you will need to apply the template file to it.

In addition to the template file, you’ll need to download and install the extensions for the template. These can also be found in the download area for the template.

      Unzip the Rocket Launcher.

      A) Install in the root. FTP the contents of the folder to, depending on your platform, public_html or httdocs

      B) Install in a folder. FTP the folder and its contents to, depending on your platform, public_html or httdocs

Note: You can name the folder to anything you like. The default name of the folder is the template name. So you may want to change it to something more friendly, e.g., ‘site’ ‘cms’, etc.

Alternately, you can upload the zipped RL package and extract it on your server through the control panel.

Note: If you have this option, it’s the way to go. It’s much faster to upload a zipped file and extract it on the server than it is to upload a few thousand files. There are also a few other advantages; doing so eliminates the possibility of a file getting missed or corrupted in the upload, sometime what seems to be a good transfer will produce a file not found’ error later on, and this also prevents any strange file permission changes.

As host control panels vary, specific instructions can’t be included here, but you’re sure to find instruction or help in your host’s tutorials, FAQs, or by contacting their support department.

Before you start, you’ll need to create a database on your server.

This is done through your host’s control panel through phpMyAdmin, or the interface used for creating databases. As host control panels vary, specific instructions can’t be included here, but you’re sure to find instruction or help in your host’s tutorials, FAQs, or by contacting their support department.

Once you’ve uploaded the Rocket Launcher files and created a database, browse to the folder,

      If it’s in the root:

      Ex: www.mysite.com/template_directory_name

      If it’s in a folder:

      Ex: www.mysite.com/template_directory_name

You don't have to navigate to the installation folder, if Joomla hasn't been installed yet, it will navigate to the install directory automatically. (How cool is that?!)

      If it’s in the root:

Note: It's a really simple point, but don't be confused by the ' www.mysite.com/ ' replace 'mysite.com' with your site's URL, for example, here it would be www.rockettheme.com/

      If it’s in a folder:

Note: It's a really simple point, but don't be confused by the ' www.mysite.com/ ' replace 'mysite.com' with your site's URL, AND ‘template_directory_name’ with the name of the template directory for example, here it would be www.rockettheme.com/ template_directory_name

      The installation screen will appear.

      Screen 1:
      Choose language

      Screen 2:
      Pre-installation Check

      Screen 3:
      License

      Screen 4:
You’ll need the following info to make the database connection with Joomla:
      Host Name
Username (for the database you’ve created)
Password (for the database you’ve created)
Database Name (for the database you’ve created)

      Screen 5:
You can skip this and use an FTP client

      Screen6:
Site Name: This will appear in the title bar of your browser.
Your e-mail: the address you want to use to receive mail from the site
Password: this is for the admin login for Joomla, it can be different than the DB password.

      Install Sample Data?
If you want to replicate the site with all the sample content, click on ‘Install Sample Data’.
If you don’t want to install the sample data, click next, a prompt will appear confirming that you want to skip.

      Screen 7:
You’ll be prompted to delete or rename the installation directory.

Before you can view the site or login as administrator, you’ll need to browse to the directory in your FTP client or CP and do so.

    • I have used the rocket launcher to set up my website, when I enter the administrative section there are some buttons missing (save, delete et cetera) I get the message: "button not defined for type="

What should I do to solve this problem?

    • I've tried uploading SolarSentinal, following these instructions very closely. However, when I point my browser to the url, I do not get the joomla installer. I get a parked page of my site.

I've talked to my web host, and they confirm that the files have been uploaded into the root directory.

They say "some file must be missing," and had me download the joomla installer, put it in the root directory (as a folder), and try again. Still the parked page.

Any idea what I have done wrong?

      Thanks,

    • It may be a problem with the default search order for index pages on your host.

For example, when you type your URL, e.g., 'mysite.com', in your browser address bar, the browser tries to open your site by searching the root for an index page. It will display the page according to a file extension hierarchy, htm, html, php, asp, etc...

So sometimes even if you upload the files properly, when you type the URL in the address bar, your browser will open the htm or html page by default.

      You could try....

      A) looking in your root for an index page with an htm or html extension and renaming it, forcing the browser to open up the next index page in the hierarchy...

      B) Through your CP, changing the hierarchy for the index page from htm or html to php

    • I have completed the installation of the Mynxx template using RL but have several problems.

The biggest is the Joomla backend appears to be corrupted as I cant see the graphics properly so when trying to edit articles etc with the header info etc is not being visible creates havoc.

Additionally some of the images that I think should accompany the template are missing. Any ideas on how to remedy this appreciated

      A) Re-upload the Joomla administrator folder and any other files you seem to be missing.

      B) Upload the zipped RL package, extract it on your server and run the install again.

i install the rocket-launcher in a new installation i get a site but with missing part :http://keepitexciting.com/Joomla_RT_Populus/

I am echoing a previous unanswered question in this thread, which has to do with an incomplete template showing after a ''successful'' fresh install.

By incomplete, I mean two things (See image enclosed) :
1 - The actual back-end of Joomla during installation ( www.mysite.com/installation/index.php ) and after ( www.mysite.com/administrator ) does not show the black header with the joomla logo, along with other graphics and icons.
2 - The Rocket Launcher demo site (full template) is partially showing - primarily missing graphics from what I can see...

Note: This is a fresh install (no previous Joomla installation) from the RocketLauncher SolarSentinel template package. The compressed RocketLauncher file was uploaded to host server through FTP software (FileZilla) and unzipped through the cPanel decrompressor in a dedicated directory under public_html*. Sample data installation successful. Installation directory then deleted as required. No errors showed during setup.

*Sub-directory as working on a sub-domain before moving to full domain.
Thank you for any help you may bring.
