The RocketTheme team has been working hard on its next Joomla template. It will be the first premium template released by RocketTheme for the all-new Gantry 5 framework.
Thanks to tireless efforts of RocketTheme's development team and tremendous support from the beta testing community, we are pleased to announce that May's RocketTheme template for Joomla will be built using Gantry 5.
The expected release date of the upcoming Gantry-powered template is May 7th. This date is subject to change as development continues.
Gantry 5 is the upcoming version of Gantry built from the ground up for the modern Web. It features drag-and-drop functionality, powerful administrative panels including the Layout Manager and Menu Editor, as well as dozens of other new features exclusive to the new framework.
Gantry 5 utilizes Twig templating and intuitive YAML-driven configuration to make creating and customizing templates as easy as possible. It also features integrated support for SCSS, CSS, and LESS.
Gantry 5 makes it easy to quickly create and customize websites, regardless of your coding experience. We have provided detailed documentation as well as a live chat room where you can connect with the development team as well as other members of the growing Gantry community to find answers, make suggestions, and share tips and tricks.
In beta since March 27th, Gantry 5 is currently in development and is undergoing frequent updates as development continues. You can check out the framework for yourself on Github, as well as the free Hydrogen template.
RocketTheme's upcoming template will be built exclusively for Gantry 5, and will showcase a robust set of features that highlight the framework's capabilities. Because Gantry itself is still a beta product, we do expect occasional updates to the framework as well as the template to take place during the weeks following the initial template's release.
RocketTheme will support the new template the same way we have any other template release in the past, with a user forum manned by our experienced team and documentation to help you hit the ground running with the new template.
We recommend downloading and trying out Gantry 5 for yourself ahead of the new template's release to get accustomed to the new framework and discover the many new features of Gantry 5.
We try to ensure that Gantry templates (and specifically the Gantry Library) will work with any modern and secure server environment. The recommended minimum requirements are:
The back-end administration requirements of Gantry in order of preference are as follows:
As mentioned in a previous blog post, Gantry 5 is not backward compatible. Because Gantry 5 features a different code base and organizational structure, existing templates would essentially need to be re-written from scratch to meet these new requirements.
This doesn't mean existing Gantry-powered templates and themes will stop being supported. We are committed to continuing support for them, as well as the existing Gantry 4 framework, into the foreseeable future. Gantry 4 for both Joomla and WordPress will continue to work with modern browsers and receive updates as needed.
