Is Your Magento Site Due for a Checkup?

Magento is one of the most recognizable platforms in the realm of e-commerce. Its Community Edition is free, open source, and comes with virtually everything you need to get started with a new commerce site. Local tax rates, international currencies, and more can be set up and deployed out of the box.

With this said, there is a level of maintenance required to keep a Magento site running at optimal levels. You want to make sure it stays updated, that your feature set is in line with what today’s consumers expect, pages load quickly and consistently across platforms, and that it remains secure.

One of the biggest mistakes site managers make is a set-it-and-forget-it approach to running an e-commerce site.

It takes more than simply deploying the website and adding items as they come in to inventory. With a CMS as complex and involved as Magento, regular maintenance means the difference between a healthy and unhealthy website.

Below is an infographic created by the folks at Mofluid to help you determine if your site is due for a checkup.

Keeping your Magento site healthy involves a multi-prong approach to site maintenance. On the back end, you want to ensure that your methods of securing your server and site are updated, that your site meets current W3 standards so it doesn’t incur penalties from search engines and potentially break on some browsers.

You will want to ensure that content is optimized so pages load faster, and that you are taking advantage of caching. Regular monitoring is also a great way to maintain your site as it will clue you in to any issues as they happen.

On the front end, you have to keep up with demand from the consumers. Create value through useful content that your customers will benefit from, and organize your products so it is as easy as possible for users to find exactly what they want.

Keeping your Magento site healthy will have a positive impact on traffic, sales, and ultimately customer retention.
