Sorry that I haven't posted much in the last few days, but with the holidays and this Vidaza® treatment cycle, I just haven't spent much time on the ole CPU. Thanks for all the PM's from people checking-up on me!!

You know, when you are sick like I am, it is easy to think that the world just "goes-on without you..." never missing a beat!!! When I receive all the well-wishes and messages from people wondering "where I went." It makes me feel missed and that makes me feel a little bit better! Hopefully in my life and with my story, I will have managed to positively impact someone's else's life.... even if it's just a little-bit... I would hate to think that my life and my story was meaningless and/or unimportant! But, you R ocketT heme members have always made it clear to me, that it's not!
      Thanks for that!

    • Hey Wage,

      Good to see you again.

I'm sure anyone on this thread counts their blessings and has you in their thoughts.

For sure, you've made me count mine, and your actions are also an inspiration.

All the best for 2011 being the best it can be for you and your family.

I have been doing some research on the Chemo drug I am on, called Vidaza®
From what I have gathered, it is a drug that is designed to slow-down the progress of the MDS by means of slowing-down the bodies metabolism, in effect, slowing down the cancer's ability to metastasize. This is why I am really "dragging-around" and feeling SO tired!
I just hope it works... that way, it will ALL-BE-WORTH-IT!! If it works and I can have a successful Allogeneic Transplant this time..... and maybe, GOD willing, I can get my life back to some form of normalcy.

      Thanks for reading!

    • Hi Wage,

I am a firm believer that we all have a part to play in what happens to us. Fate is OK but but it is not the be all and end all.

As a parent you inculcate a belief in your children that they can achieve anything. Sometimes you need to do the same for yourself :cheesy:

When I work with clients I often use phrase - "what you believe is what you achieve!" - and this works at any stage of your life, regardless of medical labels. I have seen people in denial of their illness and amazingly their symptoms reduce, simply because they refuse to believe their doctors.

      Keep up the positive thoughts.

      Regards

      David

I JUST received "The Call" from Nashville!!! They wanted my sister Julie's phone numbers. They are setting her up for the "donor" portion of the transplant. She has to go first and when they have collected the appropriate-number of stem cells, it will then be my turn!

I guess I am a little nervous now, but am really happy that it seems that it is FINALLY gonna happen!

Lord knows I have TRIED to remain patient and optimistic, all while dealing with the Vidaza® treatments... It's been a long, dark and winding road, but I can finally see "the end of it" up ahead in the distance!

      Thanks for reading!

    • Hey Wage,

      That's great news :cheesy:

Take some time to look forward and work out what you can do when you are recovered. It's amazing how much a goal can help when it comes to recovery.

Our best wishes go with you mate. 8)

    • The lady I talked to said I will be put on the list for an opening. She could only make a guess of 30 to 45 days until my time will come up!
There are mitigating factors that determine exactly when I will report.
      A) How many people are ahead of me
      B) they only have 5 transplant-units and I will have to wait for one to come open at the right time.
      C) complications stemming from a patients transplant that is ahead of me could delay my start date by a little (hence the 30-45day window).
But, the biggest hurdles have been passed....
1- The approval by the doctors in Nashville
2- The Federal Funding from Wash D.C.
