I received my Welcome Packet in the mail today and it suddenly "hit home" that this transplant is fast approaching! It wasn't too long ago that I wasn't even sure if I was gonna get approved or not! Now, I only have 8 days before I head east towards Nashville.
Once I get admitted into the Hospital, I won't have any web access... So, it will be a while before I can post any updates.... So, don't think the worst if you don't hear from me.
Thanks again for all of the support you all have given! It has meant more to me than you will ever know!

"Everyone has to get knocked-down every once-in-a-while, otherwise you'll never learn how to get-back-up!
" A quote attributed to my Grandpa Wagers
All of the sudden I am feeling nervous! I haven't been nervous at all until I got this packet in the mail. The information contained goes into great detail about what to expect. I recently found out that, unlike my first transplant, I will have to undergo "Total Body Irradiation" this time. This is on-top of the Cytoxin chemotherapy treatments. I am NOT looking forward to this at all!
The whole idea of these transplants is to take your body to the "edge-of-death" and then "rescue you" with the new stem cells! This is, as one can imagine, a pretty intense procedure! I am not guaranteed to survive it!
I do have several things in my favor:
I am young
I am in fairly good shape
I have a Full Sibling willing to be my donor
I have NO "active cancer" (MDS doesn't count)
I have a strong desire to beat this disease
The above factors are what the Doctors look for during the evaluation. These are the things that increases one's likelihood of survival and an ultimate cure.
I am getting all my personal affairs in-order this week. Sunday will be here in a blink and I will be calling Nashville "Home" for a while.
Thanks to everyone who sent out the kindness and words of encouragement. It means a lot!
So in closing, if things go right, I'll see you on "The Other-Side." If things don't go so well, I'll REALLY see you on "The Other-Side!"
No doubt we will see you on the other side.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Wage.
