    • I will be having my transplant around the End-of-July or the First part-of-August.
I will stay on the Vidaza® treatments until then because they seem to be working and I can't have many more transfusions before they "cut-me-off!"

You are right there... I DO have a great family! My Mom is taking-off work again to go with me as my "care-giver." This transplant is different from the first-one. It is MORE dangerous and will take a lot longer. I will be gone for about 4-5 months this time.

My sister Julie will be donating her stem-cells this time and I am hopeful that THIS transplant will be successful.

Sorry for my lapse in posting. I finally got my date for the transplant and I have been making plans and getting ready. I will be traveling to Nashville on August 7th and will begin a week-long evaluation by the transplant team. After I meet the qualifications and the transplant-team certifies me "ready to begin", my Sister will then travel to Nashville to begin the stem-cell harvesting.
If you are interested in how these stem cell transplants work, here is a website with a great video: http://www.cancercenter.com/video/treatments-technology/stem-cell-transplants/allogeneic
Once they have collected her stem cells and have the target quantity "in-hand" it will be frozen while awaiting for the proper time. I will then begin the High-Dose chemotherapy in order to kill my bone-marrow. This is the beginning of what they consider a countdown. This day is "day -7. (minus seven)" when I have reached "day 0" or I have been determined to have "bottomed-out" I will be rescued with my Sister's stem cells. This is when the really "dangerous" part begins.
There are two major complications I will have to survive.
First: REJECTION: This is when my body "rejects" the transplanted cells as "foreign."
Second: "Graft versus host disease:" This is when my Sister's cells attack my body as "foreign" because they do not know that they are no-longer in my Sister's body. This type of rejection is the most-common and the most dangerous.

As One can imagine, the killing of your bone-marrow leaves you extremely weak and vulnerable to infection. I will have to remain in a Isolation room and these rooms are not your normal rooms. They maintain a positive air-pressure, have ultra-violet lighting, and use a hepa-filtered air-return system. One must pass-through an "air-lock" type door system to enter them. This will be my home for however long it takes the transplant to graft.

Finally, I'm not bringing my laptop this time. It is getting too old and would not survive traveling very well. So, it's staying home. My Mom might bring her computer and if so, I'll try to post once or twice if I can. Hopefully I will make it through just fine and I'll post again after I get back.

Thanks for reading! See you on the "Other-Side!

    • I was supposed to have a week-long chemo regimen this week, but my Doctor cancelled it. My blood counts are not normalizing as they should and further chemo would keep me very weak.

I have got only 54-days until I leave for Nashville and I am SO READY to get this over-with!

      Thanks fr reading!
