Joomla and Ecommerce R.I.P VirtueMart

    • That's It, we don't tend to send goods by their weight, most things have a fixed postage, so imagine trying to set up a shopping system that is designed to use weight as the shipping?. I have not come across any tutorials or literature that help setup the shipping properly. it's a case of messing around with figures untill you hopefully get it right. Even then, as soon as people start adding multiple orders to the cart, it doesn't calculate the postage properly. What we tend to do now is offer free shipping.

I'd like to get away from this system and use something a little more user-friendly. VM is just a compromise for people who want to carry on using Joomla . If it stays like it is, it will die a death, for sure. I would probably give it 5/10

    • Shipping is just one of the many factors that keeps me away from Virtuemart and Magento. CCP has a really smart and quite easy to implement shipping system. I'll be working on an RT/CCP integration today..I'll post the link when it's up

    • @Penn, funny you should say free shipping on our salon site that has the store we offer free shipping for all the beauty products, as it is a nightmare with multiple orders, but when someone orders a 1 or 2kg pack of bath salts we are pretty much giving it to them as an act of customer service.
We have to remove the free shipping and weigh every product and with adding new brands all the time this is going to be oh so much fun, but what can you do. Unfortunately even if we could use a better system it is to late now.
I am a fan of Magento though very powerful we have a bunch of sites going live on it soon for a client.
Will have to have a play with this new cart and see what it is like.

well, it's quite easy..much like Virtuemart, there are a series of plugins, one component and display modules. You install them all...activate them of course, :cheesy: and in the component you set the direct path to the store installation, create a shared password. then you login to your store and set a few parameters...like using the Joomla skin option for the store, etc...and you're done! I'd love to use a rockettheme to create a demo site..I'm not sure how Andy would feel about that.. Actually I'd love to see a RT devoted entirely to the new ClickCart system.
      Hi,
do you know anything about the bugs?I mean,i know is "new",and always a new product has some failures. Are you into it?

    • well luckily the core product, ClickCartPro is seasoned...the integration with Joomla however, is quite new, but as with everything Kryptronic does...very very well done.

    • I'd be very interested to know how CCP compares with ECJC Online Shop (osCommerce component for Joomla). OsCommerce can be a little user un-friendly in the Admin. Is CCP better?

And, though contributions exist for most wishes with osCommerce (easily enough converted for ECJC with osC familiarity), the manual code-hacks can be time robbers and a nightmare. What's CCP like for add-on support, etc.?

    • I'm all for rip virtuemart, but i don't see this cart taking its place. Maybe if a very convincing demo emerges soon:)

What i am very enthusiastic about is the foxy cart. You can use all the styling of your normal joomla and just place some buttons in your content and you are done. Ok, its hosted and payed, but its very cheap, so that shouldn't be a problem. In my opinion perfect for US and UK shops, unfortunately not for my country because as always the payment methods are limited. But maybe in the future it will, and after all i am not doing that bad with vm.
