So I just did a demo install of ClickCartPro on a test Joomla site...elapsed time 10 minutes 25 seconds...it would have been under 10 minutes if I hadn't played around with some of the windows in the movie to show people what the AJAX driven interface for ClickCart looks like...I'll post the link to the install movie as soon as Nick over at Kryptronic gives me the go ahead...
I signed up for the demo version, waited a couple of hours and then was able to download it. Instructions were simple to follow. Anyone who has never had experience with databases before would find it pretty hard going in my opinion. Problem is, you only have 30 days with the demo version. Ideally, I would like to give myself a good couple of weeks practising with this software,
I particularly liked the option to download information from Royal mail themselves, i.e. shipping weight/costs etc. However, the instructions for doing this well rather long winded so I think it would take a bit of practice before you are able to carry out this task off the top of your head without having to refer to the instructions. However, I really did like the way they have set up shipping rates for individual items, that looked pretty simple and so so much better than VirtueMart.
Click Cart Pro is not as straightforward as a Joomla installation if you have to go through the same procedure I did when I installed CCP. It was actually very similar to Zen cart if I remember rightly.
I think the point I was trying to make about Joomla integration is that if you are not a member of rocket theme and wanted to use CCP then a cheaper option would be to purchase a CCP template, rather than a membership on here. Am I correct in saying that if you are building a website for a client then you need a developer's license?
Also, what exactly is the advantage of using a CCP Joomla integration rather than a stand-alone CCP package? The only advantage I can see is if you want to incorporate a shop inside a website. If you just want a shop then you might as well not bother with a Joomla integration.
Please don't misunderstand what I have been saying, this looks like a really nice piece of software, I am certainly not criticising it in any way at all. I have only spent a short time using it, it was quite a lot to take in and whereas being fairly familiar with VirtueMart did help me to understand a large majority of the workings, there's certainly a lot more to this piece of software than VirtueMart.
It is said that if your shop doesn't look right then you're not going to be successful. To a certain extent that is correct, however I don't entirely agree with this statement. The most important thing is giving your customers what they want for a price that they are willing to pay. Check this website out, absolutely terrible looking website, but extremely successful and they sell absolutely loads of products.
I think we just disagree on the level of difficulty in setting it up or configuring it..as my screenshot movie will show...there's maybe 5-6 settings I had to actually change...most of the settings work right out of the box and you need only click continue.
As to the advantage of having a store inside Joomla, well single sign-on for one...having a site front end and a store behind it...just gets...messy. One sign up for the site is of course what most customers expect.
As I understand it...entitlements are required to setup sites with a rockettheme not a developer's license. A developer's license merely gives you unlimited entitlements.
Just a little quick math...$60.00 membership with 2 entitlements.
2 copies of CCP =$400.00
So, typical cost for setting up a client with a Rockettheme and ClickCart = $230.00 (<= not my actual cost)
And by the way, the templates for ClickCart..aren't all that cheap. The ones I used to use from ZipSkins cost around $80.00
That's a drop in the bucket for most of our clients.. Now I would agree if you're talking about the clients who have $500.00 to spend on a website. This is most likely not the solution for them. That's "brother in law" design...we don't do that.
At that point, they're gonna need all their cash to pay for a merchant account, SSL certificate(unless they use Paypal, etc), hosting..and spending the rest of that 500.00 on getting someone to make the free Joomla templates and Virtuemart look they way they want.
Truth be told if someone calls our office looking for a $500.00 website...we refer them elsewhere. So, I would certainly agree that this solution is for a certain level of potential clients.
But, on that level...this is the best thing going, imho.
I'll let you in on a little secret though...if you become a reseller of ClickCart...you get the licenses a WHOLE lot cheaper
Anyway, for anyone who's interested...I made a screencast of a typical install of CCP, again 10 minutes, 25 seconds including the time I spent screwing around with the windows in the back end so people could see the interface a little bit.
P.S. I would have done the movie with a Rockettheme template, but I wanted to get Andy's permission for that first...I could care less about losing my YooTheme membership.
