a) grow up a little and respect others opinions
b) keep his schoolboy uppercase outbursts to himself.
Of course Joomla will progress but what is scaring people here is that 1.5 does not have the range of Components they need.
Plus, we are expected to go back and migrate every existing site, each time Joomla releases a new version.
This is *not* like IE6 vs IE7. You don't have to go back over every site and rebuild them for each browser upgrade.
If you are a small business, time is very tight, the hobbyists must realise this.
A) I guess that would apply to you with regards to my opinions.
It is all fun and games posting in this forum - till you poke your eye out. A little humor doesn't hurt...you should try it. Yes, most of the stuff I say in jest, because I enjoy this forum.,,and every once in a while - I make someone laugh or smile.
I do respect others opinions...and I have been clear - that I use both 1.0 & 1.5, but I don't feel the need to complain or get upset that Joomla is moving forward.
As for upgrading and maintaining a website - hmm, that comes with the territory. I am not sure if you got the memo, but computer upgrades, software upgrades and pretty much anything that has to do with the web will be upgraded - on a regular infinitely continuous basis. So, unless I am missing something or maybe I should still be using my Commodore 64 - I don't think it will become standard practice for no more upgrades.
So, when considering entering the fine field of "web design" take a note to insure that you include and account for upgrades and maintenance in your business plan and prices. This way your time will not seam so tight. Just a suggestion. Please disregard if your aware of this.
Other than that - this thread has not been getting ugly - it has been helping people. I've seen several post by people who have taken the dive into 1.5. I wish anyone luck who jumps aboard. I know when I first tried 1.5 it was frustrating and I walked away, but then I gave it another whirl and I have been extremely happy.
This is a healthy discussion forum...have a little discussion, have a little fun and see you on the 1.5 side.
Man, I still have my C-64 (and my TRS-80 and Timex Sinclair w/ 16K RAM and the old black tape drive with the handle) in the garage!
Oh, that's cool and funny...you can pass them on a heirlooms. Anyway, I'm unsubscribing too. "See ya on the down side" (quote by Funny Man' Rocco from Boondock Saints)
I am really looking forward to this Janurary template as it's the first for RR to only be 1.5 and to show what can be done with a template/extension strictly developed for J1.5!!!!
CB 1.2RC (J1.5 native)has been released to supporters so maybe one to three months for a stable(FOC to the public)
Seyret - 1 - 3 months
Mosets tree - 1-3 months
Mosets HP - no idea
Sobi2 - no idea
FB - no idea
Wow - 7 months later and we're still awaiting CB, Tree, HP etc.........
Perhaps it was good afterall, that all you 1.5 fanboiiis didn't get to decide. In the real world, we're still A LOT of 1.0 users
typically, this whole discussion implictly focusses on the viewpoint of people who will build, or are currently building their website with joomla. Of course, here, as the current 1.5 recieves and will recieve continuous improvement, and the old 1.0 will recieve less, there hardly any doubt about what choice shoud be made.
what is igored, tho, is the viewpoint of people who have dozens of sites that use 1.0.x, which work fine, are stable and safe, and SEF. Usuallly, and the J.1.0 bashers will certainly agree here, a lot of work went into these sites to get them to this point. But once they are, all issue are well known, and they require less support & tinker than current 1.5.
In addtion, these 1.0.x sites may use a number of extensions that are not yet 1.5 native, or will never be 1.5 native, which currently would still fordbid their owners to move to 1,5, even if they had little else to do with their lifes and decided to transform all their working 1.0 sites to nomworking 1.5 sites, by the dozen, just for the heck of it.
these are 2 different situations, 2 diffenent viewpoints, and also 2 different groups of customers.
the second group of customers, which currenlty still d-e-p-e-n-d-s on J.1.0.x than the first, is being disreagrded considerably, whithout any proper reason at all.
1.5 is, by no means at all, better or advanced, in content handling terms of available extensions, handling ItemID mess, SEO/SEF, access level, headache factor for end users, compared to J 1.0.x, to justify such treatment.
If developers are refusing to upgrade their components to J1.5 Native, then it leaves a market gap for an alternative developer to come up with a substitute product.
And since so many users worldwide use joomla, these substitute products are more likely to happen in the future.
