Well, Considering I just joined tonight, and this announcement was not visible to me (or at least was not made prominent) until AFTER I paid the full 1 year membership fee, I feel a little cheated. Had I known before joining that you were going to stop making 1.0 templtes in only 5 weeks would I still have joined? Probably...but it would have been nice to know before paying.

The notice is on nearly every single page, to include the home page, no?

    • How did you come to this calculation?

Pro membership now is $250 USD, the new price for Developers is proposed at $400 USD. Also we're going to be adding additional features for Developers that we've not been able to do with the current club code. Check out the blog for conversations along these lines.

Ok, I'm not blaming RT for international currency exchange rates, but Australians might like to consider this:

Pro RT membership if bought in July 08 = AUD $204

Pro RT membership if bought next month (December 08) = $646

      316%.

      :-\

Yup, there has been a notice posted with a link to this thread on every page. We have tried to make this as transparent as possible.

    • Sorry Andy, you're right, $200 was what I paid to UPGRADE to Pro.

      The bottom line is this:

A year of RT templates is certainly worth AU $640. But it's a brutal increase in these troubled times.
Did you consider staging it, add $100 this year and $100 next, ease the pain ?

Also, would I be right in saying RT is essentially a UK operation ? If so, can we pay in pounds or euros instead ?

Finally, I have several contractors who work for me, we all have RT memberships.
      Maybe we'll review that.

    • Well, like I said in the blog post, these prices are not final. I might consider using a two step process to get the Developer license prices up to parity. Also we're actually a US company so these past few years everyone has been appreciating the weak dollar, and now the dollar happens to be going up a bit in strength. This doesn't really help the business any as we still get the same dollar value, but it's unfortunate for our european members. But the flip side is they've been enjoying very good exchange rates for the past few years.

It's a usability issue. When I decided to join, first i looked at the club templates...I'm not reading the sidebar as I'm not interested in ads and other sorts of things that tend to sit there in the sidebar on most sites. I'm focused on the top menu where the club and free templates are listed.

Again, on that page, I'm not reading the entire site. I've found what I wanted, the templates and I browse through them. I again go to the top bar and click on template club, read what I've found (which is exactly what I've been looking for), select teh "best value" which currently lists:

      "79 tempates + 12 more during membership"

It is HERE that a notice should be placed for people like me...that came to the site, found exactly what they were looking for (due to good site usability for the templates), and are ready to purchase.

It was only after I paid and joined that I was redirected to the forum page in which the announcement is prominent at the top of the screen.

I'm not saying the club isn't a good value or that I would not have joined...I'm saying that the notice should appear right above/below/around the BUY button, and where it told me I would receive 12 new templates in the next 12 months.

Because of the components that I"m using, I'm not planning to upgrade to 1.5 anytime soon.

So aside from what I currently see in the template section, I'm only getting one more template that will work for me.

Hope you can now see where I'm coming from. It wasn't until AFTER I achieved my mission of viewing the templates and joining that I took teh time to read other stuff on the site. I was on a mission when I purchased ( a perfect SEO customer).

Again, I'm not saying that I would not have still joined to use what's here and to possibly use some 1.5 templates for future sites...but I'm not getting what was on the sales page, so I'm a little irritated is all. I'll get over it, but I felt it was important for the site owners and designers to know about.

    • If Andy permits it, I'll buy out your membership from you...just re-up'd for another year, but would gladly do another year extension.

It would be win-win for everyone, as your 328 word repsonse makes it seem like you fell victim to a bait and switch scheme, though, admittedly, "it wasn't until AFTER [you] achieved your misson" that you "took teh time to read the other stuff" that you "are not interested in."

I wonder if that *other* template would give me a refund, as they didn't post anywhere that their templates are laden with bugs, releasing only one a month now, are going J1.5 only soon, and I only used one template for less than a week and decided not to use it...and have never been back since. ;) I, too, feel cheated. ;)

    • The announcement needs to be on the sales page, as part of the description of what you get when you pay your membership fee. It was not. How much clearer can I be?

if I was unhappy I'd ask for a refund. Seems other people are upset with RT for other reasons which I have yet to discover....

Anyway, it's for a non-profit site, which is a "freebie" in terms of the number of sites I get to use it on. If I do any new Joomla sites, they'll all be 1.5, so we'll just see what happens.
