RocketTheme focusing on Joomla! 1.5 in 2009

    • Hi Guys

To put my mine at rest - I ditched the v1.5.8 install and decided to load up the ready made RocketTheme template Versatility v4 - the full install option. This is based on v1.5.7 of Joomla! I repeated the install of the Simplex template once this was installed and it worked fine - it uploaded - although the screen remained blank after the upload - like with v 1.5.8. But the difference was that when refreshed the new Simplex Template was there and appears to work fine. So there is a difference with v1.5.8 maybe we should work to keep the size or resources it uses smaller and slimer - as it does appear to be somekind of memory problem.

    • Shouldn't be a problem since your memory limit was 128 megs and 32 megs is usually enough.

    • Guys, many of you say that they don't want to switch to j!1.5 only cause they have to learn something new about installation, new administrative panel and so on. I think it's not the proper place to discuss how to use j!1.5. It's great that newer version has more possibilities and faster than previos one. We all need to learn it to go on with joomla to get the best of it.

However there are other difficulties except somebody doesn't want to study 1.5. I'm telling about great components and mambots for j!1.0, which still doesn't support 1.5 version and they have no quality substitutes! Once you tried them, you can't refuse using it.
Have you tried JComments for comments or Datso Gallery or even True Gallery? They surely will be compatible with 1.5 later, people work on it, till the end of the spring I'm sure they will finish.

All of you use great and stylish rockettheme templates, but you also use CMS joomla's addons it is famous for. Check it's compability with 1.5 on the official site of each component you have.

My membership finishes in february. I will have to quit cause I can't use 1.5 templates.

    • Considering that RocketTheme is going to require all of it's subscribers to upgrade to 1.5 if they want to continue to recieve templates... does that mean that RocketTheme.Com plans to follow suit and follow it's own advice that 1.0 is DEAD and shouldn't be supported any longer?

Coming from someone who has absolutely no plans, rhyme or reason to switch to 1.5... I just found it interesting to see that RocketTheme is currently still using what it now seems to say - is a worthless system to continue to develop...

I'm just glad I caught this before I renewed and ordered a Corporate subscription...

As Andy wrote in the first post:

"NOTE: We will not end support of our existing Joomla! 1.0 templates, rather we will not be creating Joomla 1.0 templates and extensions from January 2009 onwards."

    • Take note - EXISTING 1.0 Templates... Support for any NEW templates in 1.0 is dead now... rendering having a subscription to this site pretty much meaningless for those who have no plans to upgrade Prim...

The consensus here, from what I have read, is that 1.0 is basically dead... useless... worthless legacy software... yet - many popular extensions are not compatible with 1.5 yet... some, never will be... because they were perfected, and completed... I've not found one componant that is worth forcing me to migrate a couple years of data over to 1.5...

I have to ask myself... if 1.5 is so much better, and so much more feature rich, why has Rocket Theme not upgraded it's own then as well? They are expecting their own customers to migrate if they wish to use any new templates...

Like I said, I recieved my subscription renewal reminder over the weekend, and I'm must really happy that I caught the notice that 1.0 template development has concluded... had I not caught that this morning, I'd have renewed into a corporate subscription for no reason...

I'm not knocking the change, I understand why, but I will say that it's extremely disappointing that they decided not to continue to develop 1.0 templates...
