RocketTheme focusing on Joomla! 1.5 in 2009

    • I think it's a great idea guys.

I've been using 1.5 since back in it's RC days and haven't looked back at 1.0 ever since. Looking forward to some amazing things in 2009.

In the end you will only be remembered for what you have done with the time that you have had.

    • I understand the reasons for dropping 1.0 and I'm all for it. The last couple of sites I have done using 1.5. It's been a little painful having to relearn how to do some things. However, in the end, it hasn't been as painful as learning how to do stuff in 1.0 when I first jumped onto the Joomla boat.

    • hi all!

i started with joomla as a complete newbie not even 2 years ago. getting into it wasnt easy, but i managed to create 3 nice sites on joomla 1.0. the major reason for me to start looking into 1.5 was that it has a better language support, which is exactly what i need to include arabic (right to left) and others.

yes, it is different and takes a little time to learn, but i wont start a new site on 1.0 anymore. 1.0.15 doesnt have any security issues but support will be discontinued in july. with 1.6 already on the way, i dont see a reason to use 1.0 anymore on a new site.

i migrated one of the three 1.0 sites to 1.5, yes it was scary and time consuming, but looking back it wasnt such a big deal. the other two sites will be migrated as well, even if they are mostly static and dont require a makeover.

one thing i find funny though:
every webdesigner wants his clients to be up to date with their browsers, but when they get asked themselves to move forward to a new system, they go on strike. :D

i guess keeping existing sites on 1.0 and building new sites on 1.5 is a good way to go.

oh and one other thing, most of the time people should check first if they are the ones to be blamed for a problem, BEFORE pointing their finger at joomla or rockettheme. for me joomla 1.5 works all good.

for those who are asking: why is rt forcing us to "switch" to joomla 1.5, if rt itself is still running 1.0?
...because rt is still spending to much time on designing new 1.0 templates for those who dont like to look forward.

      just my opinion :)

That is so obvious and true that it isn't even funny....yeah it is. HA HA HA HA HA We should create a "Downgrade to IE6 Button" for those on strike, this way they can insure they keep in line with their mentality. :P

    • I am in favor of it. I am in the process of migrating my clients from 1.0 to 1.5. I just think 1.5 is a way better platform. And I am pretty sure if the Rocket Team doesn't have to focus on the 1.0 they can definitley create even more killer themes!!

    • Wow, it's getting pretty ugly.

      Wingman needs to:

      a) grow up a little and respect others opinions
      b) keep his schoolboy uppercase outbursts to himself.

Of course Joomla will progress but what is scaring people here is that 1.5 does not have the range of Components they need.

Plus, we are expected to go back and migrate every existing site, each time Joomla releases a new version.
This is *not* like IE6 vs IE7. You don't have to go back over every site and rebuild them for each browser upgrade.

If you are a small business, time is very tight, the hobbyists must realise this.

    • Wingman is just being expressive & exuberant! He doesn't seem to be mean, he is just being playful. We need to keep our sense of humor here.

I have been building new sites using 1.5 for some time now.

I have several sites using 1.0.15. I was just going to leave them like that. Is there a reason we have to migrate them? I would like to migrate them as time permits but I don't seem to have the time. Hopefully soon I can make the time to migrate one of them, then maybe the task won't seem so daunting.
