Would you consider adding a couple of months to my just renewed pro membership to compensate me for the partial-featured Joomla 1.5 templates I'm getting?

That's funny, Bob. :) What features are you missing in your "partial-featured" Joomla 1.5 templates? ;)

      Mosets tree - 1-3 months
      Mosets HP - no idea
      Sobi2 - no idea
      FB - no idea

I am absolutely certain every single one of them will be available for J1.5 by years end. If any aren't, I will consider them dead ends.

Another factor to consider is that J1.6 will be out by then. (August?September?October?) I haven't followed the latest discussions on this matter, but the last I heard from the core team was that Joomla would be backwards compatible by only one version. ie. J1.6 will run 1.5 extensions in legacy mode, but will not run 1.0.x extensions.

      Ouch!! What about DocMan?

As far as stopping 1.0 templates... good idea...

For those who want to hang on to 1.0, every template from the clubs inception until now or even 'till the end of the year is 1.0 compatible... IMHO, more than enough to choose from if you really needed to stick with 1.0.

    • Things are moving fast.

I've sorta changed my opinion on this too. Keep producing 1.0 templates if enough members insist... but begin to use template overrides etc to give the 1.5 releases additional features.

    • Some of us have not migrated onto 1.5 yet. I have scratched the surface with it on a few test websites but certainly haven't gone into great depth. From what I have seen of 1.5, I don't think I'll have too much of a problem getting my head around it. What I am worried about is upgrading from 1.15 to 1.5. My Oscar Fish website is number one on Google, I don't want that to change. I wonder if some of you could give me your experiences of upgrading from 1.15 to 1.5. Also, maybe the easiest way of doing it. Somebody on here said it would be easier to virtually wipe everything and start from scratch, obviously saving all your material so you only have to paste it in.

I am not surprised that we have been given a years grace on here, you certainly get value for money here in every aspect.

another template club I'm a member of gave you a month's notice.

    • Be sure to check all the migration information posted at Joomla when you do decide to move on up to 1.5.

It's definitely worth working on ASAP in my mind. It's going to be a pain whenever you do it, so might as well get a jump on it and start moving on to the newer stuff.

      A couple hints:

Moving from Joomla 1.0.15 to Joomla 1.5.x is a migration and not an upgrade, so you are sort of starting from scratch anyways. The migrator component converts the 1.x database over to the 1.5 construct and really only gets the core. Any add-ons, you'll have to work on.

Joomla 1.5.x is a fresh install and you upload the migration sql database during the install. Do your homework and have a 1.5 version of all the add-ons and the templates you're using when you work on this.

The migration way of doing things is really a pretty good way for a change this big because your original site can still stay up for a while and you've essentially got your first 1.5 test site to work on and bring up to speed.

Back to the original post question, move to 1.5. Enough templates overlap both versions now and any new installs people are doing for Joomla really should be 1.5.

Move at will, 1/1/2009 is after all only 2 templates away. Personally, you can move now. I think anybody needing a 1.0 template has a great selection to choose from now. I have converted most of my sites and have stopped development on all 1.0 sites. Most of my required 3rd party extensions are 1.5 native or close now.
