    • Eventually, we all must move forward and forget about 16bit DOS 5.

XP is still the worlds most popular operating system, and ie6 is stock install on it(unless you have a later service pack)

I know. I am only pointing out that the same thing was said about DOS, and then Win3.11, and 16bit vs 32bit.

This stupid computing and web world we are in progresses quickly, and eventually the ten year old legacy systems become dead, mummified in the hands of IT who are comfortable in the past.

I am not anti-XP, and I understand the infection rate of IE6. I am just commenting on the reality of this next step we are all taking towards next-gen, whether we fight it or not.

I'm sure the non-talking knuckle-dragging ancient man were grunting about all those yapping uprights.

    • I'm really not complaining about RT bc of dropping IE6-support. If I only could I would drop it too.

    • Guys, just to let you know we don't plan on dropping IE6 completely with the Jan '10 template. We are going to 'try' to support IE6 in a very limited manor. Something along the lines of Graceful Degradation/Progressive Enhancement, so things won't look the same in IE6, but it won't look broken either. We realize that IE6 still hovers around 10% in most browser statistics, so we can't drop it completely, on the other hand, we don't want it to hold us back any longer. We think having IE6 show a degraded but still functional version is the best option at this point. Maybe with the successful launch of Windows7 and in turn more folks using IE8, the number of IE6 users will decrease rapidly, and we can drop it completely.

    • that is more then enough for me. Graceful Degradation would be great!
Andy – thanks for info – quite a big relief for me.

      I'm already practising that ...

Perhaps the IE-alert should be updated in that case ...

    • Could I request an optional redirect opportunity for IE6 that I could turn on and off?

      A: IE-alert
      B: no IE alert
C: redirect to ... (a single summary page for example)

      for the template-parameters?
