Not sure what this blogomunity is

hmmm seems like the author closed down the blogomunity website and everything has now been moved to alterbrains. Wonder if my subscription is still valid.

It is almost the same as rokbridge, only it has some more capabilities in terms of jomsocial integration. The SEF functionality is however something to watch, since it may put a heavy burden on the database. It is instead of rokbridge a 'wrapped' forum. You may want to keep that in mind.

There are 2 options with the p8phh either "wrapped" or "standalone" running in standalone is pretty much same as rokbridge in a sense. with the wrapped mode it helps you to more tightly integrate it with your site. I did notice though that in wrapped mode there is more to add to help it integrate like some lines in the .htaccess . If you are wanting something more simple though i would definetly suggest rokbridge you can always wrap it yourself in a module in the future but you will essentially have 2 different sites and 2 different databases. yes with alterbrains you will merge your databases into 1 which can take time and if you are not comfortable with mysql or phpmyadmin then you may want to stay away from alterbrains version.

Personally I am liking Kunena more than phpbb3 but its not easy to transfer a 10 year old forum "that has been updated" into Kunena I have been looking for a simple solution with no avail. Eventually though as the new kunena for joomla 3 feels so much more tightly integrated into the site as well there is not a separate admin area for the forum.

For now I will continue to use the alterbrains solution with phpbb3 ... if anyone wants to point me to a converter I would be much interested...

But seriously if you can stay away from bridges you will be happier if your starting a brand new forum go with one that was made for joomla it will make your life that much easier.

    • Sorry 1 more thing about alterbrains p8phh and rokbridge

ROKBRIDGE IS FREE!!! with FREE updates!!!

p8phh will set you back around 70 us dollars and you get 1 yr of updates, unless you go with there "lite" version in which case you would be better of with rokbridge.

Keep in mind all the work that went into it. It may be free, but it took me about 1 year to update it to 2.5 and 3.0. Too many people forget that with a "free" app
