    • @lapoux,

I actually meant that you can do the most customization with JSeblod....

And yes I know Sobi is old and a bit bloated, but it also doesn't use many dB queries and whipping out a custom php template is pretty straightforward.

You're right though, I don't ask clients to modify fields or content types, but in my opinion: 1. Getting them set up is a nightmare. 2. There is almost no documentation. 3. Templating is a nightmare because of #2.

Lastly, having to add additional content types for things like rokbox to function just makes the process really long.

The main problem with JSeblod is that whenever I'm working in it I feel as though I am re-inventing the wheel using a hammer and a big square rock.

    • I found ZOO 2 very easy to set up and pretty straight forward (and carefully thought out).
As Richard discribed it only took me minutes to add and setup my own things without having looked at it before.
Others may have more things to offer but they are way to fuzzy for my (maybe to small) brain ...

    • @Henning...as one of the most prolific posters here on RT w/o being a mod I seriously doubt that you are small brained.

@lapoux...I've set up a brand new install of J!, Added Jseblod latest and Zoo 2.

What I'm going to do is time myself as to what I need to get done for clients, I'll post the results here and provode links. I'm not affiliated with any of the CCK's (JSeblod, Flexi, K2, Zoo, Sobi) and I really don't have a preference so I'm curious myself to see where this goes. I just want to find what suits my personal needs.

I'm sure you could do things in JSeblod much faster than I, but isn't this the point of my experiment. If I have time, I'll add the others as well.

Maybe we could set up a single dev site and see how we go with them...a sort of real world testing of users with different levels of experience. A J! CCK showdown site.

      Cheers,

      R

I'm a bit confused. You only need a field for rokbox, and not a content type for it to work if that is what you mean.
Update: I think I know what you mean. When you import the rokbox cckpack import fields only, so it doesn't create a content type for it.RICHARD BEAN wrote:

You could create a CCK Pack for a blog layout to save you some time next time. I'm still very new to CCK Pack, but I believe it saves the fields and template of a specific content type, so you can easily upload it to another project that may have the same content type.

can a mod split the topic? It's not k2 vs FLEXIconent any more. Probably "Which CCK extension to use"?

Peter, I'd stay away from anything that Mighty Extensions does. They have a really bad rep on the web.

It would be nice to see a new Sobi2 or Sobi3!

Mighty Extensions is exactly why I am looking at other CCKs, and am wanting something like jsebold due to it sticking with the Joomla Core.

I'm tired of these components that are their own little environment, and I'm hoping with J1.6, some of my own needs will be taken care of directly in the code. For 'extra stuff' I'll look at jsebold and other like it.

I'm also looking at Nooku Framework, but have not had time to dive in yet. Basically, this searching for a replacement of ME Resources is holding me up.

I liked Mighty Resources at first, switching from the dated SOBI2. Though Resources had a steep learning curve, I did find it powerful and flexible. Then the updates.... bug, bug, bug, changed functioning, support site down, support site down again, new update, small updates for each of the content fields... SEF issues after SEF issues.

The support is good, when the support site is up. But they seem to be programmers that talk like you know the inner workings like they do. Much like we might tell a client "just FTP into the plugin directory", and they go "FGP.. what?"

They may handle their bugs well, and may be great programmers, but I can't rely on them for my clients sites. I just need a site to work without worrying that an update will screw things up.

One thing I find very very suspicious is all of the rave reviews of their products in the Extensions directory. It 'feels' very slanted, and many of the reviews use the same broken english sounding like the same person over and over with the 5 stars.
[I'm not trying to bash Mighty Extensions... just giving my observations while I wait for their site to come back up so I can search for support.]
