I use DotEasy.com located in British Columbia, Canada. Service is good and prompt (except Christmas and New Years were slow). I've been hacked a few times, but that may just be my Joomla settings. They have scheduled or non-scheduled backups.

Although, when I used Gallery 2, I had to move my site to another server that has a greater server memory allotment. That new server went down several times over a six month period (for a couple of days two times), but seems stable now. I just have to make sure that I backup often - as anyone should do. The Control Panel is good. It seems to offer a lot of options.

On the whole, I'm pleased - more pleased lately.

However, I'm considering a different hosting company for my next site.

    • Im currently using streamline.net , UK based

Im in a similar situation to you, its a decent hoster but i will consider another host.
Its best aspects are its unrestricted bandwidths (unless incredibly high) and customer support which is phenominal.
I only had one major concern and that was the version of phpmyadmin which was a lower model. Apart from that, they have been a great hoster

    • I joined Siteground www.siteground.com when I got into Mambo a few years back and so far am very pleased. Great fast support and I have never had trouble. I like the fact that they deal with Joomla!, so any trouble I have (.htaccess was one), they helped. My last host tried to ruin my life and I have never looked back. I was naive and ran with the 1st company whose price looked best....and I ate it for that. ::)

The competition in the webhosting business is fierce and it is scary choosing a good one.

I checked out this site: http://www.webhostingunleashed.com/ and did some research on what other users have said. Even for giggles I looked up my former host and wasn't surprised seeing they had nothing but negative reviews.

There are lots of reputive companies out there.

      Good luck Dave!

    • I am seriously considering changing my host.
Does anyone use www.bluehost.com/ ? I am considering them.
Also, does anyone know of a tool that will move all files to a new server?
(i see JoomlaCloner, but don't need all that comes with it, just a tool (maybe ftp) that will transfer all of my files to the new server)

    • I had an account on hostmonster.com, which shares a support company with bluehost.com. They were very nice to deal with. I ended up moving away from them at the time because they would not allow wildcard domains on their accounts. No other complaints. just for info, hostmonster is a better deal than bluehost.

Currently I have a reseller account with hostgator.com. $25/month gets you 12gb disk and 125gb bandwidth. Not the greatest numbers, I am well aware of that, but consider the following: I have had excellent support from them, both live and email (very quick) and when asking about the "low numbers" I was told they ACTUALLY allocate the whole 12gb disk to a client, rather than saying 100gb and hoping you only use 50mb or something like that.

One downside of hostgator is that they limit you to 200 outgoing mail per hour. This isn't a big issue, but something to consider if you have a large mailing list.

I've also got an account at siteground.com. Incredible numbers and support, although they limit you to something like 7 support questions per account, per year, and then you pay. Kinda stiff. Also they try hard to push yearly payments.

    • Thanks for starting this thread Dave - Ill be keeping an eye on it. Seems like there are a few of us in the same boat. Would be great if Andy opened a Rocket Theme Hosting Company for members specializing in Joomla Hosting. I am sure he would pick up thousands of clients from the get go. Me being one.

It's not like he has anything else to do :P

That would be nice, but I think there is a lot of affiliate ads for RT that are on hosting company websites that may be coming off if that happened. Not sure. Although, I haven't seen that many RT affiliate ads on hosting company sites.
