    • I use Servage ( http://www.servage.net/ )because of the cheap plan (€ 6.35 per month), the nice support and, of course the joomla! compatibly. In my opinion it is the best and cheapest host for small(-meduim) sites out there.
If you sign up at servage, use this coupon code to get 25 Gb extra space: gm-dev

    • I rent a dedicated server as I like to be in control :)

I do a small amount of hosting but generally to clients that i'm already doing development for.

I don't try and compete against the big boys of hosting, they spend my yearly advertising budget in a day :)

No. Really. How do you REALLY feel about them?

What a bad day to wander into this topic. I have people getting bouncebacks when they send email. So I called my webhost (who I shall not name, but it rhymes with "iTowerVeb") to get it resolved. "Yes, I see that there is a problem with your email server, but I do not have the resources to fix it. I have submitted your trouble ticket and you should hear back from someone in about 12 hours."

If this had happened last month, no big deal. But we're organizing a tennis tournament and there are people emailing us questions all the time! This is the WRONG time for emails to go down for more than a day. Then again, if it had happened at the end of Feb, I'd -really- be screwed.

Last time I called tech support (at least a 15 minute wait, each time) about a mySQL error I was getting, they were very helpful and said "It looks like you have maxed out the SQL queries in an hour." Awesome. That's the error message that was on my screen. Thanks. :-) </rant>

      I hate them serisouly.
I had to email and call three time to get them to cancel my package.
They say free trial software but they charge you like 30bucks after 3months with out telling you.

    • I use HostGator since 1 year and 8 months. It's really a great hosting. I never had a problem, the support is very good (forum, chat, tickets). I was thinking about another company just to have another server and IP to build link exchange between my sites. However, I'll purchase another account in new server at HostGator to do it ;)

Hm... could you tell me precisely what VPS is in a simple way?
      VPS = Virtual Private Server

It is a standalone virtual server that only you have access to and you have complete access to all configuration of Linux, Apache, mySQL etc.

At ServInt you can get a starter Centos Linux VPS and as your needs grow they can add processing power and memory to increase the performance of your server without you needing to migrate.

They of course have dedicated solutions but this method allows you to grow with minimal pain and suffering :)

Is the processing power/RAM shared amongst all the VPS's on the same physical machine?
    • Say no to Internet Explorer 6.

      Hey Gollum

I use a Virtual Server for one of my sites that needed to really perform and has high traffic etc - www.expio.co.nz/ It's a NZ based company.

      Service Features

      • Your own domain name (yourdomain.co.nz)*
      • Your own IP address

      • 500 MB storage space (additional storage 20c/MB)
      • Unlimited traffic**

      • Root access to your own Linux Virtual Server via SSH
      • Access to edit all server configuration settings
      • Access to all server log files
      • Access to install third party scripts and tools

      • Create unlimited user accounts for FTP, SSH and POP/IMAP email access
      • Create unlimited email aliases (email forwarding)
      • Create unlimited virtual hosts (host multiple sites)

      • Secure SSL server enabled (SSL certificate required)

      • Apache 1.3 with PHP 4
      • MySQL 4 (unlimited databases)
      • Perl and CGI support
      • Webmail and web site statistics software preinstalled

      • High performance servers
      • Direct high speed connectivity to the NZ and global Internet via the Auckland Peering Exchange (APE) and international and national carriers
      • Daily data backups

$89 NZ per month. They can add more space etc as you need. I have found the performance a lot better then the shared hosting my other sites are on.
