What's your hosting company? Do you like it?

    • I had an account at dreamhost before as well. (I've tried quite a few as you can tell)... Their blog actually really bothered me because I couldn't believe how many server problems they have and they post about them all. I'm sure every host has their share of server problems but I found it a little scary.

Dreamhost has their own control panel that has been made in-house, where Hostgator users cPanel. Worth considering if you're stuck on one system or another.

      Thanks guys,
      Hostgator looks good.

Anyone using dreamhost? I am considering them as well... if only because they have an awesome blog ;D

hey Joseph, how complicated is using vps compared to shared? i've not much *nix experiance and all the shtuff about ssh and what not is greek to me. I hear that i'll be able to install custom software etc... but would i HAVE TO to get it working right?

After reading the dreamhost about us and some of the blog - I think I might have to use them.

    • I have a VPS with Servint as well ...like Joseph mentioned.... there service is awesome....have been with them going on 2 years I think... have not had a single complaint.

I recently signed up with Bluehost.... I am going to use the service more for the amount of space they offer....plus wanted this project away from my VPS.... I tip... sign up for their affiliate program then use your own link... I signed up for the 12 month @ 7.95 / month was like 96$ for a year... and after if I stay with them like 45 days I get the affilaite commission of $65... so 30bucks for the first year...figure cant go too wrong with that....

I've used DreamHost for a friends domain. It seemed pretty barebones to me. It didn't have a backup as far s I could find. I may be wrong about that.

Im using it 2 years now and had no actual problems yet... Ive even been chosen as a Dreamhost Site of the Month back in March with "360 Uploads" which used Technozine.

Dave, I had to restore my site once and I didnt even have a back up, I asked them if there was a solution and they restored everything from 2 hours before.

I really need an opinion now... since I used to have a Movie Upload Site, I continued using Dreamhost because of the great Webspace and Bandwidth, I signed up for 2 more years.
However, the SMTP Server sucks really bad and somehow randomly, the Joomla PHP Mail Fuction is not working and I have to use SMTP Server and Dreamhost only allows 100 emails per hour..

At last they changed my limit to 500 but still im not happy with the solution.

Im considering moving to a different host...
I need a stable E-Mail Server, high bandwidth, the most important features you can think of, medium space (im not using an upload site anymore!) a good service and of course not too expensive.

    • OK Well I just signed up for a year with Dreamhost only US$120 so worth the trial I think - Will let you guys know how It all goes. Thanks for all the suggestions I would never have found this company if it wasn't for everyones willingness to post suggestions and thoughts.

If I end up having trouble and it all goes to sh## then I know who to blame - All of You :P

    • After trying multiple hosts like Hostgator, GoDaddy, Dreamhost, Servint, ...., I have now two accounts, one with Hostony where I have a VPS, great company located in Ukraine with quick support and one with servage.net, a Swedish company, that offer the best deal of the market on shared hosting. They have cluster technology which allows you to get much power than traditional shared hosting.

I am now considering moving to a "managed dedicated server" but have not found good company so far ...
There is www.dedibox.fr for 30 euros/month but it is located in France. Amazon also offer some good plans with S3.

Hosting is like any brand, the more visible, the more expensive ..

    • Im thinking of getting a reseller account with HostGator. There prices seem really reasonable. The only trouble is they are US based and Im UK based.

    • in 90% of cases, there would be no noticable difference between UK and US hosting.
