Is the processing power/RAM shared amongst all the VPS's on the same physical machine?
      Yes.
ServInt uses Virtuozzo which is a very mature OS virtualization environment.
      www.swsoft.com/en/products/virtuozzo/

Plesk Control Panel which is also created by swsoft is a great control panel for Virtuozzo as it is designed to work with Virtuozzo.
      Works really well.

Expio doesn't mention what OS virtualization environment they use. There are a few open source solution like openvz.org/ which is based on Virtuozzo and www.xensource.com/products/ which still offer a free version of XEN.

    • I never really took the time to learn about all those things.. I still dont even know what linux is except for people saying its different than windows lol.

This must be too complicated... would anyone help me get a new "vps" host and move my site to it , Ill give you a fee :)

All I want is my site to perform the way it should be, have unlimited traffic and a medium space quota because my site is seriously about to go blast like myspace sometime soon :P

    • I am trying a new host called http://www.hostnine.com.  They don't give a tremendous amount of space or bandwidth, but for the mom & pop stuff I do it will be great. I got the reseller account and it was set up in 15 minutes, I like the idea of being able to create clients their own accounts and give them control. It also included modernbill for free. which is a nice bonus if I could ever get any clients that pay. lol

I will keep you updated with how it goes.

PS I now use three different hosting providers. Some people collect shoes while others collect hosts.

    • Hi,

I guess I'd have to say that I like my hosting

      www.jikometrix.net

You can scale your site from shared to VPS/ VDS to mutli-processor dedicated hardware with nearly zero down time and you keep your IP. Well you get to keep you IP if you sign up for a dedicated IP. Plans start at $10 per month and we have a VAR program that pays you 10% for all referals. Your hosting could be made cost nutral.

      Sincerely,
      Mike

    • I have a managed VPS with LiquidWeb, USD50 a month gives me 20GB storage, 200GB transfers, unlimited domains & emails & MySQL, root access, branded NS, a very stable server and quick and friendly technical support. Been with them about 6 months now and was never down.

I can even create my own reseller programs with it.

My friend uses DreamHost. It's pretty stable and very fast. If you don't mind it going down once in a while no one can beat their deals.

Whatever you do, stay away from Site5 though.

    • I've got my own hosting company as well : http://www.techdelta.com.  Actually, my company is an IT company that also has hosting services.

Like Mike, I have enjoyed zero downtime. Many of my customers are Joomla users.

I've got FreeBSD Linux servers and Win2K3 servers. MySQL, PgSQL, and MSSQL databases. My plans are based on resources, so I do not limit the number of emails, domains, subdomains, etc you host on a single plan. Webmail, spam filtering, server based virus scanning, daily server backups and user on-demand backups, .NET on the IIS servers, and a very nice hosting control panel too.

Plans start at $7.50 CDN (plus GST for my fellow Canadians) per month. As I get more customers, my plans will increase resource allocation. Prices have not gone up in 2 years, and I don't see them going up soon either. The only automated payment method I have right now is via PayPal, but I am getting to the point where I can justify an online CC processing method.

Depends on which server you're on. Some sites (including my friend's and 1 hobby site of mine) went down for a few days a month or two ago due to DB problems. I think it's listed on their blog.

    • While most of my 40 odd domains are .com.au business sites I use a French firm Haisoft.net for the last 4 years and I have never had any problems - for a couple of hundred Euros a year - they offer 25 domain 1.5gig accounts for about 180 Euro.

I also have a siteground account and would recommend this to anyone who just needs a single simple joomla site - the ease of installation of scripts is amazing and support great
